Rizwan Khan is a Muslim child who grew up with his brother Zakir and his mother Razia Khan in a middle-class family in the section of Mumbai. Rizwan is different from other children, however. Adam Raki (Dancy) is a young man, who has Asperger syndrome, living alone in Manhattan after his father's recent death. He has a friend, Harlan Keyes (Frankie Faison), an old army friend of his father's, who is always there for him. Because of his condition, Adam has difficulty communicating with others and likes to escape into his love of space exploration. His fixation on detail, repetitive behaviors, and mind-blindness cost him his job at a toy manufacturing company and nearly get him arrested after he is mistaken for a pedophile. He does not want to leave the apartment he and his father had been living in, but the loss of his job leaves him with an uncertain future, including the problem of continuing to pay the mortgage. Although he has Asperger syndrome and likes to stick to his own routine, avoiding socializing with others, Adam is lonely and wishes things could be different.

The movie starts with a blonde, running around with a white towl wrapped around her body. She has a sharp piece of glass in her right hand, and is frightened by what is going on. She hears someone coming, and when that stranger comes, she stabs the person several times, but when she realizes what she has done, she is shocked, and sad. In 1932, in Kentucky, there is a little girl, sitting in a truck with a driver whose face cannot be seen. She asks why she can't enter the sanatorium, and the driver that is seated next to her says that "she" died there. The child then asks who, and the driver is shown to be a gory-faced woman. The scene transitions to Heather(Steffany Huckaby), who was daydreaming about the sanatorium. She is in a college course, studying the "White Plague"(Tuberculosis) and how it took 63,000 lives.

Pour s'amuser, une bande de jeunes et des petits de maternelle attachent l'un de leurs camarades de classe à un épouvantail. Abandonné toute la nuit à son triste sort, il finit par tomber dans le coma. Tout cela n'était qu'un jeu, mais lorsque l'épouvantail prend vie et commence à éliminer un par un les adolescents, la plaisanterie tourne à l'horreur.
