Au début des années 1960, Gomberg fait équipe avec James Whitmore pour créer la série "The Law and Mr. Jones ". Biography
Bien que né à New York, Sy Gomberg fait ses études à l'Université de Californie du Sud, où il obtient un diplôme de cinéma en 1941. Lors de la guerre, il est engagé dans l'unité de cinéma First Motion Picture Unit . Par la suite il contribue à divers magazines, parmi lesquels Collier's et le Saturday Evening Post, avant d'écrire pour le cinéma et la télévision.Au début des années 1960, Gomberg fait équipe avec James Whitmore pour créer la série "The Law and Mr. Jones ". Cette expérience est à l'origine de son engagement auprès de l'Union américaine pour les libertés civiles. When a 100-year-old military academy falls on hard times and is forced to merge with a school for girls, the academy's resident ghosts (Dick O'Neill, Victor French and Louise Latham) are outraged and aroused from their sleep to seek justice. Outraged by this disrespect of tradition, the spirits are further appalled by a modern world of equal rights for women, rock 'n' roll as well as the dishonest designs a wealthy matron (Ruta Lee) has for the school. Honor-bound "to defend these hallowed halls", the ghost trio declares war on the living who are involved in their own battle of the sexes.

Johnny Williams (Drake), a psychotic serial killer who returns to his hometown to visit his mother (Hutchinson) and widowed sister-in-law Helen (Miller), both of whom are ignorant of his criminal past. Johnny hopes to settle down and start life anew, but Helen, her suspicions aroused by visiting detective Mike Randall (Taylor), discovers the truth about her beloved brother-in-law. Failing to talk Helen out of turning him in, Johnny methodically plots her murder. When all his plans fail he drags Helen into his car and drives off with her. Knowing Johnny is going to kill her, Helen grabs the keys, and he is forced to swerve to avoid hitting a boy riding his bike, and is killed in the resulting accident. At the memorial service, as Johnny is lauded as a model citizen, only Helen and Mike know the real truth.

The film follows the staff of the Army weekly magazine Yank, who are among the first American troops in Tokyo after Japan's surrender. Opera singer superstar Renato Rossano (Mario Lanza) is drafted into the U.S. Army. His Sergeant, "Bat" Batterson (James Whitmore) is an opera fan who admires Rossano and wishes Rossano to appraise his sister's (Doretta Morrow) singing voice. The rest of his platoon as well as the company commander disapproves of Batterson's showing favourtism to Rossano by excusing him from normal training. Rossano also schemes to have Master Sgt Batterson allow him to go to New York supposedly to have his manager appraise Batterson's sister, Brigit's singing voice but in reality allowing him to do a performance.

Set in Louisiana in 1905, the plot revolves around Pepe Abellard Duvalle, a bayou fisherman with a natural singing talent, who falls in love with opera star soprano Suzette Micheline (Grayson). William "Bill" Kluggs (Dan Dailey) is the first in his hometown of Punxatawney, West Virginia, to enlist in the Army Air Forces after the attack on Pearl Harbor, making his father Herman (William Demarest), mother Gertrude (Evelyn Varden) and girlfriend Marge Fettles (Colleen Townsend) proud. The whole town sees him off. Willie tries to become a pilot but washes out, although he proves to be so proficient at aerial gunnery that, rather than being sent to Europe to fight, he is made an instructor and assigned to a base near his hometown. After two years in the same place, he is branded a coward by the townsfolk, even though he continually requests a transfer into combat.
