Pantelion Films was created in 2010 and based in Santa Monica, California. The studio's goal is to bring wider theatrical distribution of movies aimed at Latino audiences. It is backed by Lions Gate Entertainment and Televisa and made theatrical, relationships with movie exhibition chains including Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, cinemex, and Cinemark. The studio's first film was 2011's From Prada to Nada, which Lions Gate and Grupo Televisa announced it had commissioned for a television series that did not materialize in 2012.

The film follows Chávez's efforts to organize 50,000 farm workers in California, some of whom were braceros—temporary workers from Mexico permitted to live and work in the United States in agriculture, and required to return to Mexico if they stopped working. Working conditions are very poor for the braceros, who also suffer from racism and brutality at the hands of the employers and local Californians. To help the workers, César Chávez (Michael Peña) forms a labor union known as the United Farm Workers (UFW). Chávez's efforts opposed, sometimes violently, by the owners of the large industrial farms where the braceros work. The film touches on several major nonviolent campaigns by the UFW: the Delano grape strike, the Salad Bowl strike, and the 1975 Modesto march.

In 2005, before Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans, Nolan Hayes rushes his wife Abigail Hayes to the emergency room as she is in labor five weeks early. El Santos, a fighter with an declining career, stoned and overweight, suffers from his recent divorce from La Tetona Mendoza, a voluptuous and feisty wild female wrestler. To get out of his depression, El Santos began a campaign to help Sahuayo Zombies. However, his philanthropic campaign soon became a very profitable business that leverages Santos for their benefit. The population suffers a zombie plague and La Tetona Mendoza threatens Santos if he doesn't eliminate the zombie invasion. However, El Peyote Asesino (eternal rival of Santos) gets rid of the zombies and therefore the affection of La Tetona. Soon the world realizes that being without zombies is worse than anyone could have ever imagined and the only way to save the nation is regenerating the zombie population. El Santos finds that his sidekick, El Cabo, is half human and half zombie (one of his parents was one) and by spreading his DNA the manage to start a zombie infection and save the day.
