Irene est une jeune Italienne qui vit seule dans une maison en bord de mer dans la région de Rome. Gilda, Olivia and Crocetta are three friends who live in a small island of Sicily. The women try to live as they can, being inept and provincial; but the chance of destiny soon arrive. In fact, the three women, one night, go to an island cave, because they suspect that Rocco, Olivia's husband, is going to meet an alleged lover there. Actually Rocco is a trafficker, who is trying to hide the loot in the cave, and so the three women, when they are discovered and threatened by man, Rocco is killed by gunshots. The three friends make the corpse disappear, and decide to keep quiet, but soon the police and criminals colleagues of Rocco put on their trail. In fact, men do not want so much about the death of Rocco, rather than looking for the loot that the women took.

The movie relates the story of Ida Dalser, who fell in love with the future Italian Fascist leader, Benito Mussolini, supported him while he was unemployed in the early 1910s, and married him, presumably around 1914. Mais Barberousse en vient aux exactions, il envoie l'armée impériale dans des expéditions punitives contre un grand nombre de villes alliées de Milan, assiège enfin cette dernière et, le 10 mars 1162, l'envahit avec ses troupes et la rase jusqu'au sol. Au cours de la bataille périssent les deux frères d'Alberto, dont l'un, Otto, est tué par Alberto lui-même dans une tentative tragique de défendre les murs de Milan.
