Soyuzmultfilm (Russian: Союзмультфильм; [səjʉsmʊlʲtˈfʲilʲm], Union Cartoon) is a Russian animation studio based in Moscow. Over the years it has gained international attention and respect, garnering numerous awards both at home and abroad. Noted for a great variety of style, it is regarded as the most influential animation studio of the former Soviet Union. The studio has produced 1530 films during its existence.

It is currently divided into two studios: "Creative union of the "Film studio "Soyuzmultfilm" («Творческо-производственное объединение «Киностудия «Союзмультфильм») and the Soyuzmultfilm Film Fund («Фильмофонд Киностудии «Союзмультфильм»).

Experiment is set in a town, where the citizens were forced walk everywhere by foot because of constant traffic jams. To solve this situation, city officials decided to conduct an experiment: people were allowed to fly. Most citizens immediately grew wings and quickly moved to a new lifestyle, however, for some reason wings did not grow on few others. To find such wingless people a place for life, they decided to appoint flight supervisors and invented strict rules and regulations for the flights.

The story begins with the end of winter, and the southern ocean showing the aurora australis. A flock of penguins, coming from the north, returns home. The females separate from their mates to go hunt as males build their nests from piles of pebbles. The females return to lay their eggs, only to eventually separate from the males again, whilst the males take care of the eggs. It would take forty days before the females returned. A flock of aggressive seagulls constantly threatens to steal the penguin eggs and raids the nesting grounds while the females are away. Unfortunately, the hunger and all the good food that was waiting made some of the male penguins abandon their nest. A father (black and white penguin) of a couple saves the egg of another family, meanwhile one of their two eggs is stolen from their nest. When the mother (a dark blue and white penguin) returns, the father says that one of the eggs does not belong to them. They return another penguin's egg and have one egg for themselves.

This is a story about a little hedgehog (voiced by Mariya Vinogradova), who is on his way to visit his friend the bear cub. As explained in the introductory narration, the two would meet every evening to drink tea from the cub's samovar, which was heated on a fire of juniper twigs. As they drank their tea, the hedgehog and the bear would chat and count the stars together.

The day comes when an old watchdog becomes useless but the masters being kind decide not to drive him away. However they turn exasperated when the Dog stays indifferent during a burglary. The Dog is kicked out and goes to the forest, where he meets the Wolf, his old enemy. The Dog and the Wolf are both old, so they understand they can't be just enemies. The Wolf stages a kidnapping to help his mate and the Dog "rescues" the child. The Dog is welcomed back to the khutor (the farmstead) and continues managing his old duty. The winter comes and one evening the Dog hears the howl of the Wolf. The Dog remembers to repay the Wolf's kindness. He helps the Wolf to infiltrate the house where there is wedding in progress and feeds him with viands from table. Becoming tipsy from filling meal, alcohol and warm house, the Wolf reveals starts to howl his "song". He howls and the Dog has to cast the mate away from the house. The Wolf thanks the Dog and the best friends bid farewell.

The film begins with young Gascon Dog running on the road to Paris and singing that he is "provincial yet principled", "fameless, but direct and honest", and "if service, let it be service to the king". He sees two carriages and a beautiful bichon nearby. Anne of Austria, sitting unseen inside one carriage, hands a diamond necklace to the Duke of Buckingham. Then both carriages leave the place. The whole scene is seen by red cat Milady, who reports on the meeting to a Cardinal Richelieu's gray cat (unnamed).

There is a lot of extra space in the house, and therefore the local dog Sharik was called to fill it; he joined them cheerfully and amicably.

La vie coule tranquillement dans la société ancienne. Chacun y trouve sa place et les gens consacrent leur temps à des discussions philosophiques sur le sens de la vie. Parmi eux vit Icare, un excentrique qui essaie d'apprendre à voler comme les oiseaux. Retombant à chaque tentative, il se voit asséner un proverbe par l'un des vieux sages qui observent la scène, comme, par exemple Festina lente, Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi, Quo altior gradus, tanto profundior casus, Bene qui stat non moveatur, etc. Ces paroles atteignent le ciel et en retombent sous forme de monuments de granit. Mais un jour, un miracle se produit et Icare s'envole.
