Une voix dans la nuit (A Voice in the Dark) est un film américain réalisé par Frank Lloyd, sorti en 1921.

Synopsis

Deux sœurs se fiancent le même jour, Adele, la cadette, au Docteur Hugh Sainsbury, et Blanche, l'aînée, à Harlan Day, l'assistant du procureur. Elles sont toutes les deux soupçonnées de meurtre lorsque Sainsbury est retrouvé assassiné. Blanche a un mobile, Sainsbury l'a presque déshonorée et elle voulait éviter que sa sœur l'épouse. Grâce au témoignage de deux témoins, un sourd et un aveugle qui résident dans le sanatorium où travaillait Sainsbury, le mystère est résolu : la coupable est Amelia Ellingham, une infirmière que Sainsbury avait séduite et à qui il avait proposé le mariage.

Seven young English aviators are billeted at the Berthelot farm near the French front. One of the flyers, Philip Blythe, falls in love with farmer Berthelot's daughter, Jeannie, and on the morning before a dangerous mission declares his love for her. Philip is shot down, and Jeannie helps an ambulance crew to extricate his apparently lifeless body from the wrecked plane. In the following weeks, Jeannie searches in vain in all of the military army hospitals for Philip. She does encounter Philip's father, who, disapproving of her lowly origins, falsely informs her that Philip has died. In farewell, Jeannie sends a bouquet of lilacs to his room, and Philip, recognizing the flowers as her gift, painfully drags himself to his window in time to call her back to him.

As summarized in a film publication, David Marsh (Bowers), an inventor, is in love with Ann Hardy (Novak), but his brother Lewis also loves her. Après des études en Europe, Ethel Warren revient faire des débuts à New York avec la compagnie d'opéra dont Jean Paurel, un baryton de renommée mondiale, est la vedette. Carlo, prévenu par Sabotini, la suit et lui fait une scène, ce à quoi elle répond en annonçant ses fiançailles avec Paurel. Ce dernier étant incapable de jouer le deuxième acte, Carlo prend sa place et est très applaudi. Après que Paurel apprend qu'il ne pourra jamais plus chanter, Bianca, une chanteuse à la retraite et le premier amour de Paurel, lui apprend que Carlo est leur fils et supplie Paurel de laisser Ethel pour le bonheur du jeune homme. Finalement il accepte.
