Daniel returns to his family's mansion for the holidays along with his girlfriend Susanne. His family's seemingly utopian existence is overshadowed by not only the death of Daniel's brother, but also by Daniel's failure to live up to his brother's potential. However, this quickly becomes inconsequential, as blood-thirsty killers soon show up to steal the artwork, and whatever else they can find in the house. As the family members are killed, Daniel flees with Susanne in the basement, hoping for survival. The plot twist is that Daniel not only knows the blood-thirsty killers and is in on the whole thing, but was also responsible for the death of his brother. Daniel kills all the "art thieves" and starts to stage the scene when one of his siblings "rises from the dead" to foil his plan. He is caught in the act of trying to strangle him by Susanne and what ensues is a battle not only for her life, but the life of his last-surviving family member.Directed by Fred GerberGenres DramaActors JoBeth Williams,

The movie starts with Nicole Lauker saying good-bye to her husband as he and his friend leave to go fishing for three days. As the night comes, the door-bell rings and Nicole answers. It is the police. They say that the boat has been crashed by a bomb and Evan (her husband) is dead. They believe the death was contrived and suspect that Evan was possibly dealing with illegal substances, drugs. Nicole is devastated and refuses to believe that her husband has any connection with drugs. That night she gets a call from somebody that was going to go with Evan on the trip but was delayed. He tells her to find "the money" or the men Evan betrayed will kill her, too. As she is searching for the money, she finds an envelope to an address in Detroit. To throw the FBI of her trail, Nicole goes to her friend's house and convinces her to dress like her, leave and drive Nicole's car to DC so the suspicious FBI will follow her friend while Nicole goes to find the man at the address. Nicole is shocked to learn that the man at the address died recently in a fire. The wife, a stripper named Zoe, invites Nicole in. They share stories and pictures and soon discover that Evan was married to them both. Zoe has an exact replica of a bird statue that Evan gave Nicole for an anniversary and that is the clue they need to find Evan. Nicole and Zoe seek help from Zoe's bounty hunter friend Mac. Together, they go to the art museum where Evan purchased the statues and learn that Evan is alive, living under another name and address. They go to his house to confront him; Nicole goes in alone. Evan tells Nicole that he is actually an undercover agent for the State Department. He justifies his bigamy and two faked deaths as necessary to pull off a $5 million deal with criminals, as ordered by his handler. Suspicious, Nicole demands to participate in the platinum for cash exchange. Evan reluctantly agrees. Apparently impressed by her resourcefulness and still professing his love for Nicole, Evan asks Nicole to run away with him to the Caribbean. Nicole tells Zoe and Mac that her future is with Evan and agrees to run off with him. Evan kidnaps Nicole and Zoe and takes them away on his boat. When Evan tries to kill Zoe, Mac shoots Evan. Gunfire is exchanged. Mac is killed. Nicole saves Zoe and confronts Evan. Evan taunts Nicole and challenges her to go ahead and shoot hims. Despite being a straight A student, Zoe Tyler (Kellie Martin), a manic-depressive 17-year-old, constantly gets in trouble with her friends including Ann (Clea DuVall) due to angry outbursts caused by her refusal to take her medicine. One day, she skips school to hitchhike to San Francisco, California to visit her father at a piano concert. When the guy giving her a drive attempts to undress her, she screams and leaves the car, running back home where her mother Victoria (Karen Young) expresses her concern over her absence. In response, she runs away home to a nearby carnaval, where she winds up dangling from a Ferris wheel. Her concerned mother decides that now something has to be done, and commits her daughter to a mental institution. Meanwhile, somewhere else Jake Walker (James Marsden), another 17-year-old, has difficulty respecting authority as well, even though he was raised by two forward, highly successful parents, one of whom is a respected lawyer, David (Terry O'Quinn). When he is not sleeping around with girls, Jake spends his day running away from the cops because of misdemeanors. One night, after a concert, he is arrested by the police and the judge advises for Jake to be in a juvenile facility. Preventing these hard measures to be done, David commits his son to the same mental hospital for a period of one month.
