Ramu (Nandamuri Balakrishna) is an orphan whom Lawyer Raghava Rao (Jaggayya) and Gayatri Devi (Sharada) had adopted and treated him like a son. Ramu was treated as one of their four children. Ramu was very sensible and loved his parents a lot, he can do anything for his parents. Once Ramu meets Sita (Rajani) who is the daughter of the servant in their house and falls in love with her. Ramu's freedom and right in the affairs of their house is not liked by their own sons Satish & Ramesh (Hari Prasad & Bhaskar) and son-in-law Gopalam (Sudhakar). So they plan and remove Ramu from their house and takes all the authorities. Now Ramu is trying to reunite his family.

Venkataramaiah (Gummadi) respectable person in the society, who runs a timber business. He has a happy joint family with his wife Padmavathi (Jayanthi) and 3 sons & 2 daughters. Anand (Nandamuri Balakrishna) the younger son of Venkataramaiah is a very happy-go-lucky boy. He does not take up any responsibility neither does he earn anything. But he simply wastes his father's money. Accidentally he meets Kavita (Vijayashanti) who works as a dance teacher in a school. They both are very opposite to each other. They always fight with each other. But on a certain occasion Anand falls in love with Kavita but she thinks that he is just trying to fool her. Sivaram (Satyanarayana) opponent businessman to Venkataramaiah, who once worked as a worker under Venkataramaiah, always had quarrels with Venkataramaiah and Anand. After sometime Kavitha understands Anand's love, but his family members did not agree for their marriage, so Anand leaves the house and marries Kavitha. Meanwhile Sivaram throws Venkataramaiah into heavy debts, so entire property comes to the occasion. Remaining children leaves Venkataramaiah alone which leads to his heart attack and his wife's death. Finally, Anand comes to their rescue and who he keeps up his parents prestige and honor, forms the rest of the story.

The story starts with a conflict between two villages Ramapuram and Raghavapuram for Lord Rama statues. In that conflict, Raja's father who is the president of Ramapuram has been killed by Govindaiah brother-Subbaramaiah. Taking into that mind Raja's elder brother Rangayya kills Subbaramaiah and is sentenced to jail. After few years, Raja falls in love with one of his colleague in college without knowing that she is Subbaramayya's daughter, her name is Vara Laxmi. But their love was not accepted neither by Laxmi's brother Hari nor by Govindayya. The rest of the film is all about how Raja struggles to marry Lakshmi with creating relationship between both the families.
