The film, which was produced at the Dovzhenko Film Studios, takes place in 1943 and is about a Hutsul girl played by Lyubov Rumyantseva. In 1969 it received a Golden Tower award at the Phnom Penh Film Festival in Cambodia. The director received a special prize at the Kyiv Film Festival. In USSR alone, in 1969 25.1 million people saw it.
Synopsis
The film dwells of the love story in the midst of the Second World War in 1943. A Hutsul girl Annychka finds herself in the middle of hostilities and gets acquainted with a wounded soldier in the forest. Looking after the soldier, she falls in love with him and turns against her boyfriend in the village, who became a Nazi collaborator. Having told her father of the decision to elope with the soldier she drives her father to despair and eventual insanity. The story ends on a tragic note, when the father kills his daughter.Actors

In a small Hutsul village in the Carpathian mountains of Ukraine, a young man, Ivan, falls in love with the daughter of the man who killed his father. Though their families share a bitter enmity, Ivan and Marichka have known each other since childhood. In preparation for their marriage, Ivan leaves the village to work and earn money for a household. While he is gone, Marichka accidentally slips into a river and drowns while trying to rescue a lost lamb.

L'histoire se déroule dans les faubourgs d'Odessa après la révolution russe. Un certain bandit "Tcherven" terrorise la ville. Volodia Patrikeev, fils du professeur et idéaliste à peine sorti de l’adolescence rêve de combattre les ennemis du régime communiste. Il se présente au chef de la milice locale afin d’intégrer le service de répression du banditisme. Mais il est envoyé dans la banlieue démêler les petites affaires sans importance. Il a sous ses ordres un inspecteur du nom de Grichtchenko qui occupe son post depuis longtemps et connait le coin comme sa poche. C'est un homme de terrain et paysan dans l'âme, l'exercice de sa fonction relève de la pure improvisation. Effaré, Patrikeev constate que Grichtchenko rend aux habitants locaux "pour l'usage pour un certain temps" l'alcool saisi dans les distilleries clandestines, non pas pour contourner la loi, mais pour que le produit ne se perd pas. Son autre inspecteur Victor Chestakov est un autodidacte, un homme réservé et courageux. Avec Grichtchenko, le premier jour de leur collaboration, ils se font voler le fourgon vert qui sert pour tous les déplacements de leur brigade. Patrikeev est contraint d'arrêter pour ce vol l'un de ses camarades d'école, un certain "Krasavtchik" qu'il affrontait dans le temps sur le terrain de football et qui à cause de ce détail lui est d'autant plus sympathique. "Krasavtchik" s'évade. En le poursuivant, Patrikeev finira par tomber sur la planque de "Tcherven" et découvrir derrière ce surnom quelqu'un qu'il connaissait depuis longtemps.

L'action se déroule en Bessarabie au XIX siècle, alors que ce pays moldave était sous la domination des Tzars. Toma Alistar (joué par Sergiu Lunchevici) est le chef d'un taraf (orchestre populaire) de lăutaris ("trouvères" en roumain). Le nom de Toma Alistar est inspiré par la rue Toma Stelian, où se trouve l'ambassade d'URSS à Bucarest, où la mère d'Emil Loteanu travaillait, et où il a passé son enfance : Alistar et Stelian évoquent l'« étoile ». Le personnage d'Alistar est stellaire (sa passion pour la musique, son talent unanimement reconnu), solaire (son humour, sa joie de vivre, son énergie) et lunaire (sa déchirure intime, depuis sa prime jeunesse, où il fut séparé de son grand amour, Leanca, une jeune Rom jouée par Olga Câmpeanu… amour intense mais empêché parce qu'elle était Rom, et lui gadjo c'est-à-dire non-Rom ; en jouant du violon -jusqu'à Vienne devant l'empereur d'Autriche- Alistar ne cesse de rechercher Leanca).

Georgian bush pilot Valentin (Valiko) Mizandari a.k.a. Mimino (Vakhtang Kikabidze) works at small local airlines, flying helicopters between small villages. But he dreams of piloting large international airlines aircraft, so he decides to go to Moscow to follow his dream.
