Arimpara ((Malayalam: അരിമ്പാറ), (alternate title - A Story That Begins at the End), translation: The Wart)) is a 2003 Indian drama film directed by Murali Nair. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.

Synopsis

Based on O.V.Vijayan's story of the same name,this is the story of Krishnan Unni and his wart.Krishnan unnni is a landlord living happily with his wife and son. He comes from a family that is well respected in the village. But things have changed now, labourers are no more the bonded slaves, who used to bend over for their landlords .Krishnan Unni still lives in the past glory days and refuses to change with time.The story takes a Kafkaish turn when a wart in his face takes a life of its own. What happens to Krishnan Unni forms the rest of the story.

A local ruler bows down to the pressure from democratic forces and is forced to hand over a part of his province to a democratically elected leader. He also presents his pet dog to a poor peasant and his wife. For the poor peasant and his wife, the dog is not a mere dog, but a symbol of the royalty which had always inspired in them feelings of respect, admiration and blind worship. They bathe the dog in a very ceremonious manner and take much care of it. They even desist from tying it up. But when the dog bites and kills a duck and then a boy, it leads to problems. The democratic leader orders the arrest of the dog, followed by the arrest of the poor peasant. Then follow protests, talks, negotiations leading to more interesting developments.

The story revolves around a widowed father and son working as scavengers and the harsh life they face. The duo belongs to a section of society who are marginalized in the mainstream.
