As Long as You're Near Me (German: Solange Du da bist) is a 1953 West German drama film directed by Harald Braun. It was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.

Synopsis

À la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Eva Berger a fui les territoires à l'est de l'Allemagne pour l'ouest. Elle travaille maintenant comme figurante au cinéma. Le réalisateur Frank Tornau la remarque et lui fait passer des essais. Eva raconte alors l'histoire de sa vie. Tornau trouve là la matière pour un film. Son auteur Paul écrit un scénario et pense que Mona Arendt sera la vedette du film. Tornau souhaite qu'Eva reprenne son propre rôle. Stefan, l'époux d'Eva, s'oppose à la réalisation de ce film. De plus, il se rend compte de l'histoire d'amour qui naît entre Eva et Tornau. Le tournage s'avère une torture pour Eva qui revit son passé. Au cours de la dernière scène, alors qu'elle s'est séparée de son mari blessé, elle fait une dépression nerveuse. Cependant elle se rapproche de Stefan avec lequel elle se réconcilie.

Tolemainen, le président d'un pays au nord de l'Europe, veut passer les derniers jours avant l'élection dans sa résidence secondaire dans un bois. Au XVIII siècle, l'éminent docteur allemand Johann Friedrich Struensee est appelé à la cour royale du Danemark pour examiner le jeune roi Christian VII qu'on dit aliéné. Struensee ne diagnostique qu'une instabilité et le déclare apte à gouverner. À cette occasion, il devient son ami et conseiller. Mais bientôt bruisse la rumeur d'une relation amoureuse entre Struensee et la reine Mathilde. La souveraine donne naissance à une fille, Louise, dotée d'un grain de beauté identique à celui de Struensee, attestant ainsi sa paternité. In 1995 Hollywood, novice screenwriter Robert Sandrich has written an autobiographical script inspired by his lover's death by AIDS-related cerebral tuberculosis. In 1961, the financially strapped author Pamela "P. L." Travers reluctantly travels from her home in London to Los Angeles to work with Walt Disney at the urging of her agent, Diarmuid Russell. Disney has pursued the film rights to her Mary Poppins stories for twenty years, having promised his daughters that he would produce a film based on them. Travers has steadfastly resisted Disney's efforts because she fears what he would do to her character. However, she has not written anything in a while and her book royalties have dwindled to nothing, so she risks losing her house. Still, Russell has to remind her that Disney has agreed to two major stipulations - no animation and unprecedented script approval - before she agrees to go.
