David Andrew Leo Fincher (born August 28, 1962) is an American film director and music video director. Fincher was nominated the Academy Award for Best Director for his 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and his 2010 film The Social Network. For The Social Network, Fincher won the Golden Globe Award for Best Director and the BAFTA Award for Best Direction. His most recent film is 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel of the same name.

En 1983, il est engagé par la société d'effets spéciaux Industrial Light & Magic, où il travaille sur des films comme Star Wars, épisode VI : Le Retour du Jedi, L'Histoire sans fin, Le Secret de la pyramide et Indiana Jones et le Temple maudit. Sur ce dernier film, il est à l'origine de l'effet visuel de la scène où Harrison Ford est suspendu à une échelle dans le vide, les autres techniciens ne parvenant pas à créer cette illusion.
En 1984, il quitte ILM et tourne une publicité préventive destinée à avertir les femmes enceintes des dangers du tabac pendant leur grossesse. Diffusée à la télévision pour l'American Cancer Society, cette publicité choc qui montre un fœtus en train de fumer attire l'attention des producteurs d'Hollywood et lui permet de réaliser le documentaire The Beat of the Live Drum en 1985.
En 1986, il s'associe avec les producteurs Steve Golin et Sigurjón Sighvatsson ainsi qu'avec les réalisateurs Dominic Sena, Greg Gold et Nigel Dick pour fonder la société de production Propaganda Films. La société révèle des cinéastes comme Spike Jonze ou Michael Bay, produit certaines œuvres de David Lynch et donne naissance à la révolution MTV grâce à ses vidéoclips.

The opening shot is a panorama of Los Angeles, revealing a city where all of the buildings and inhabitants are some form of commercial branding: birds in the form of Bentley logos, Microsoft's butterfly, pedestrians in the shape of the AIM icon, overhead highway signs mounted on Atlantic Records logos, etc. The major characters are revealed in an Altman-esque tableau. The Pringles mascot (voiced by David Fincher) pulls into a restaurant's parking lot and propositions an Esso Girl waitress (voiced by Aja Evans) who is on a smoking break. Two Michelin Man cops in a parked cruiser (voiced by Bob Stephenson and Sherman Augustus) are introduced as they debate the morality of keeping animals in zoos. Across town, Bob's Big Boy (voiced by Joel Michaely) and Haribo (voiced by Matt Winston) are on a tour at the zoo led by a flamboyant Mr. Clean (voiced by Michaely). The two boys hate the tour and hop off the tour train. They soon begin to harass the MGM lion by mooning it and throwing a Coca Cola bottle at it, but they are scolded by the zoo security, the Green Giant.
