The movie created history by becoming the first Indian movie whose remake rights have been bought by Hollywood. Ajaykumar, Prithviraj and Mallika Kapoor appear in lead roles in the movie. The movie is about a mysterious island where all the men are dwarfs and all the women, normal.
Albhutha Dweepu was released in 2005 and the remake rights were sold almost immediately to Hollywood director Ron Howard who was in India at that time. But later the project was cancelled.
The film features Ajaykumar (Pakru) as the dwarf prince Gajendra. He has made an entry into the Guinness Book of Records through this character for being the shortest actor (86 cm height) to play a full-length character in a film.
Synopsis
Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jagadheesh and Indrans work for the Indian Navy, who later reach a sea shore of an unknown island as a result of shipwreck. There, they find two of their colleagues killed by the dwarfs and decide to take asylum in the village's temple so they won't be found.Actors

Jayadeva Sharma hails from an aristocratic Brahmin family. However his family's fortunes disappears and he is fostered by a goldsmith. Eventually he is betrayed by Ananthapadmanabhan, a man who he thinks is Athira's boy friend. To get his money back, he disguises as a sage with the help of his friends Premadasan and gets into the house of Athira's grand father, Kunnamanagalam Neelakantan Vaidyar as a guest. Jayadevan's and Athira's friendship blooms after he saves her from Balagopalan, who is a cousin of her. Premadasan end up falling in love with Vasumathi who is also a cousin of Athira. Near the climax on Athira's wedding day, Jayadevan is held hostage by Ananthapadmanabhan and is saved by Premadasan. At the end Athira's fiancé is caught and Athira and Jayadevan unites.

Vinod (Pritviraj) is in love with Aswathy (Karthika Mathew) a member of the Lakshmipuram royal family, which has many dark secrets. When Aswathy's mother refuses her to marry Vinod, she elopes and marries him. Just before the birth of their child, Vinod and Aswathy make up with the royal family consisting of two uncles, Pooradam Thirunal Valiya Koyi Thampuran (Jagathi Sreekumar) and Pooradam Thirunal cheriya Koyi Thampuran (Jagadeesh), and their wives. Later a child is born to them and Aswathy dies mysteriously during the delivery. Her grandmother is bedridden by now. The baby is called Ammu (Taruni Sachdev) and is looked after by the members of the family who start thinking that the little girl is possessed by an evil spirit. Vinod hires Indu(Meenakshi) to babysit Ammu. Later the family members understand that Indu is also possessed by an evil spirit.

Maya (Kavya Madhavan), a young television reporter works for New India Television. Radharamanan (Mukesh), the Managing Director of the channel has a fascination for Maya, who was brought up in an orphanage by Father Chanthakkadan (Thilakan). The protagonist of the film is an orphan who takes care of his sister. For an operation of his sister, he needs money. He joins with a known con artist and tries to make money. The story circles around Sanjeev Kumar (Prithviraj) who is awaiting his selection into the police force. But it was being delayed by the then Police commissioner (Anandaraj) who is backed up by his political and underground relationships and has a grudge against Sanjeev's father. When things go beyond a limit, Sanjeev gets fed up, and locks up the Commissioner in a secret location. Sanjeev gets selected for the police force and joins as a Sub-Inspector in a police station near his home town, and gets a lot of praise for his work in curbing crime in the city.
