Jagannadharao, a leading lawyer marries Janaki and fathers to a son (Master Arjun). Indrasena Varma and his friend Rudrayya addicts Jagannadharao to drinking. According to a plan, they accuse Janaki as fallen woman, and try to get rid off her along with child, by provoking the people stoning her to death, when Jagannadharao falls unconscious owing to heavy drinking. In the temple of Shiva, Janaki names her son as Jamadagni (Krishna). She commits suicide whilst Young Jamadagni lights the lamp at Shivlinga. Young Jamadagni takes his dead mother on a small wheel cart to a graveyard and there he performs cremation. Jaggayya marries Parvatamma for the second time and fathers to a son named Chandram (Krishna) and a daughter (Poornima). Parvatamma comes to know about the treachery and threatens Indrasena Varma and Rudrayya that she calls the police. Nevertheless She loses her eyesight when pushed by Indrasena Varma and Rudrayya, whilst Jagannadharao is stroked by hand paralysis. Indrasena Varma and Rudrayya grabs the property of Jagannadharao. Paralyzed Jagannadharao and his family leaves the riches.

Archana (Sridevi) plays the role of popular singer, and Johnny (Rajinikanth) is her ardent fan. Johnny is a con-man who does petty-thefts (only on the greedy ones) to close the loan taken by his father. Johnny never misses the concerts of Archana and this is noticed by Archana too. A tender love develops between the two, but Johnny is guarded in accepting the love of Archana due to his not-so-clean background. But one day Johnny accepts the love of Archana when she proposes to him. Meanwhile, the other character of Rajini, a barber lives a lonely life with his assortment of pet animals. He falls for Deepa another loner and they both plan to marry. The barber Rajini notices his lover's infidelity and kills her in rage. Knowing about his look alike Johnny and knowing that he is wanted by the police, he tries to pass on the murder charge to him. Both of them are chased by police, Johnny hides in a forest, barber Rajini tries to pass of as Johnny by taking refuge in Archanas house. Archana gets hurt by the curt behavior of barber Rajini (in the guise of Johnny) and she is confused on the same. Finally, the barber Rajini realises his folly and unites the lovers by getting caught in the police, taking responsibility of Johnny's crimes included.

The film opens with Chiranjeevi being chased and caught by a group of policemen, but he escapes. Meanwhile, a young military man (Rajinikanth) returns to his village, which is known for frequent thefts and murders perpetrated by the mysterious "One-Eyed Man" (Chiranjeevi) and his gang of thieves. Rajini soon meets Chiranjeevi; the two were once college roommates, but they had since separated. In addition to Chiranjeevi, Rajini reunites with his father (Poornam Vishwanatha), an Orthodox Iyengar who always condemns him, and he finds out that his sister eloped with a man few years before, which he later finds out was other than the gangleader of the thieves himself, Chiranjeevi. Sridevi plays Rajini's love interest as a poultry farm girl in a highly glamorous role. The climax fight between Rajini and Chiranjeevi is the highlight of the movie. In the end Chiranjeevi gets shot by his own son.

During a Buzkashi competition with a neighboring tribe in Afghanistan, Badshah Khan (Amitabh Bachchan) falls in love with Benazir (Sridevi) and wants to marry her. Benazir agrees to marry him on the condition that he must bring her the head of Habib Ullah who killed her father. Badshah Khan goes to India to search for Habibullah. He finds Habibullah in a prison and breaks him out to take him back. He has the jailer Ranveer Singh (Vikram Gokhale) on his trail. In the end he chops off Habibulla's head. He told Ranveer that he would be back in one month to receive punishment (from the Law) for taking Habibulla. Badshah goes back to Afghanistan and marries Benazir; after the time limit he comes back to India and surrenders himself to Rajput Khan and is jailed for five years. While he is away he leaves his childhood friend Khuda Baksh (Danny Denzongpa) to take care of his wife.

Anju and Manju are twins separated when babies thanks to their mentally handicapped nanny. An evil uncle Tribhuvan gets their parents killed in a car accident. Officer Kapil Khanna was a strict enforcer of the law. In order to gain evidence against the local mafia Don D'Costa he seek a favour from his underworld friend Aazam Khan a man with a golden heart. Aazam Khan was successful in securing evidence against D'Costa but the mafia got wise to it and before Aazam Khan could reach the law, D'Costa with the help of his friend Dalpat Dalal liquidated him. The blame of Aazam Khan's death was owned by a petty driver Nathulal for a price paid by Dalpat Dala. Aazam Khan's little son Akbar swore vengeance against Police Officer Kapil Khanna as he felt him responsible. Kapil Khanna's wife delivered a baby boy in the hospital of D'Costa, so did Dalpat Dalal's wife to a baby girl. D'Costa returned Dalpat's favour by interchanging the two on Dalpat's insistence. Kapil Khanna was enraged at this and he took to a legal battle against the hospital authorities.
