The movie stars Sally Eilers, James Dunn and Minna Gombell, and details, in realistic fashion, the day-to-day lives and loves of ordinary people going about their ordinary lives. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Borzage won the Academy Award for Directing and Burke won for Best Writing, Adaptation.
Synopsis
Dot (Haley), une jeune fille sollicitée par la gente masculine qui "ne pense qu'à ça" fait le pari, alors qu'elle se promène avec sa meilleure amie Edna (Gombell) à Coney Island, qu'un certain jeune homme qui ne semble pas s’intéresser aux femmes lui adressera la parole. Eddie, le jeune homme en question qui dit d'abord s'appeler Joe (Dunn) est sérieux, bourru, et économise sou par sou pour ouvrir sa propre entreprise. Dot et Eddie tombent amoureux et Eddie finit par proposer le mariage à Dot, un peu pour lui éviter d'affronter son frère lorsqu'il la raccompagne à quatre heures du matin. Très vite le jeune couple doit faire face à son passé : Dot a perdu sa maman à sa naissance et Eddie vient d'une famille très pauvre. Lorsque Dot se rend compte qu'elle est enceinte elle n'ose le dire à Eddie persuadée qu'il ne désire pas d'enfant car il soutient que les parents sont fous de mettre des enfants au monde.Actors

Set around 1900, the titular Lazybones is in love with Agnes. Her sister, Ruth, returns home with a child and a story about marrying a seaman who was lost at sea. She attempts suicide by jumping in the river, but Lazybones saves her and, taking pity on the child, Kit, adopts her without revealing her true mother. Agnes and Ruth's mother is very strict and when told by Ruth of the child, strikes her with a cane. As the years pass, Ruth dies and Lazybones goes off to World War I. The film tells of Madeleine de Beaupre (Marlene Dietrich), a devious jewel thief. After stealing a string of pearls from jeweler Aristide Duval (Ernest Cossart), de Beaupre flees Paris. She leaves a trail that implicates psychiatrist Dr. Pauquet (Alan Mowbray). As she heads for the Spanish border, she nearly runs into Tom Bradley (Gary Cooper), an American auto mechanic vacationing in Europe. De Beaupre spots Bradley again at the Spanish customs. She's worried that the pearls will be found in her handbag, so she slips them into Bradley's pocket. After they make their way through inspection, de Beaupre flirts with Bradley in an attempt to get the pearls back. Bradley is too shy to respond so she gets his attention by trying to "repair" the engine of her car with a hammer. De Beaupre lures Bradley to the San Sebastian estate of her partner in crime, Carlos Margoli (John Halliday). It doesn't take long for Tom to figure out what de Beaupre and Margoli are up to. Yet, Bradley also knows that he's fallen for de Beaupre, and he's willing to go along as long as he's near her.
