Battle of the Year is a 2013 American 3D dance film directed by Benson Lee. The film was released on September 20, 2013 through Screen Gems and stars Josh Holloway, Chris Brown, Laz Alonso, Caity Lotz, and Josh Peck.
Battle of the Year is based upon Lee's award winning 2008 documentary Planet B-Boy, about the b-boying competition of the same name. The feature film includes cinematography by Vasco Nunes, Lee's director of photography on the original documentary.
Variety magazine listed Battle of the Year as one of "Hollywood's biggest box office bombs of 2013" earning just $16.5 million against a $20 million production budget (excluding advertising and marketing budget).
Synopsis
Dante Graham enlists Jason Blake to coach the United States' b-boy team to compete in the Battle of the Year, as the US has not won in 15 years. Blake puts together a team of the best b-boys across America à la Dream Team. After overcoming their differences and learning to work as a team, the Dream Team makes it to the semi-finals, beats the reigning champion French team and finds themselves against the favorites, the Koreans. Ultimately, they lose by one point. Blake resolves to resume training as soon as possible to win next year.Actors

DJ Williams (Columbus Short) is a young man in inner-city Los Angeles. He and his younger brother Duron (Chris Brown) compete in local dance competitions as members of a crew known as the "Goon Squad". During the battle there are backs and forths, but in the end of the battle the Goon Squad win a cash-prize, and the leader of the rival crew goes all in for a double or nothing battle,which DJ accepts much to the dismay of his brother who knows that if the opposing crew leader thinks he got hustled the crew won't be able to spend the money they win, the Goon Squad wins the second battle and the losing home crew responds by ambushing DJ and his crewmates after the show. A fight breaks out, and the leader of the rival crew starts beating up DJ. Duron pushes him away and starts fighting him, leading the rival to pull out a gun and shoot Duron, killing him.

The story is set during a workers' strike in Nantes in 1955. The film begins with Beau (Hedlund), singing with Kelly (Paltrow), a recovering alcoholic going through rehab. Dans une banlieue de Strasbourg, on suit le chemin d'un petit garçon, Max, qui lors de ses vacances d'été fera une merveilleuse rencontre avec la musique et l'amour. En effet, il suit le rythme énergique de Swing, une jeune Manouche aux allures de garçon manqué, qui lui fait découvrir sa communauté (leur mode de vie, leurs traditions, leurs origines, leur liberté...). Fasciné par les musiciens manouches, Max prend des cours de guitare avec l'un d'eux, Miraldo (inspiré et interprété par un des plus grands guitaristes de jazz manouche, Tchavolo Schmitt), qui est un génie de la musique. Entre de nombreux, forts et entraînants moments musicaux (chants, danse, musique...), le jeune garçon tombe peu à peu amoureux de son amie Swing. Mais ses vacances se terminent et sa condition de jeune écolier gadjo (terme rom désignant ceux qui ne sont pas de cette ethnie comme dans Gadjo Dilo) le rattrape.
