Three young bachelors Pandiyan (Pandiyan), Anand (Anand Babu) and Babu (Babu) are friends and room-mates in an apartment. Balram (Mammootty), popularly known as Karadi (Bear) is an honest Circle Inspector. Frustrated in his life after several personal setbacks, including a failed affair of the heart, Balram has turned to drinking and womanizing. Balram is assigned to nab Satyaraj (Captain Raju), who evaded the clutches of the police after murdering Chackochan (Paravoor Bharathan), a contractor. Balram successfully arrests him, but in court, Satyaraj is represented by Advocate Jayachandran (Sukumaran). Satyraj is acquitted by court, but Balram decides to frame in several other criminal charges pending against him. Usha (Nalini), Balram's ex-lover is now married to Jayachandran, who is now involved in several illegal business ventures. Balram falls in love with Seetha (Geetha), a prostitute, whom he decides to marry. Meanwhile, Radha (Seema), a young lady is determined to avenge herself on Balram, who she believes to have killed her brother while in police custody. But in reality, it was a handwork of Satyaraj, on instruction from Vincent (Janardanan). Falsely implicated, Balram had been suspended from police for a couple of years, but has been reinstated. Though Seetha tried to convince Radha of the truth, she is not ready to accept it. To gain her revenge over Balram, Radha decides to offer Satyaraj a safe stay away from the police eyes. Balram's open fight with Satyaraj and his "outside the law" dealing with him forms the rest of the story.

Vaikundam Soorya Narayana Iyer (Mammootty), a business executive, leads a normal family life along with Veni Geetha, his wife and his mother Sukumari. After falling from a tree while trying to capture an escaped pet parrot, Iyer undergoes (fear of heights) giving him the power of clairvoyance. A couple of days later, he foresees a train accident with precise train number, and time of incident. He warns the railway authorities. But failing to take his warning into account, an accident takes place killing more than a hundred passengers. A couple of days later, Iyer foresees an airplane accident and informs the authorities about a future bombing on a flight in Delhi. Aided by the information, the disaster is prevented, causing Iyer to hit the headlines. He gets an insight about steroids added to a particular brand of baby food by Gabrias Group. Iyer contacts Amala, a news reporter who does an expose, destroying the business empire of Gabrias. Gabria (Devan) vows vengeance on Iyer and plants a bomb in his car, killing Iyer's entire family. In retaliation Iyer kills Gabrias, but is shot and admitted to hospital. At hospital, he predicts the setting of the sun early at 3 pm on Thursday. But Amala realizes that Iyer had just predicted his own death. The police impose tight security; however a terrorist group successfully enters the hospital shooting Iyer down.

Harikrishnan (Mohanlal), an immigrant in Mumbai, who like many thousands of immigrants is busy struggling to make ends meet. He shares a room with a group of Malayali guys, who too have their own personal problems and difficulties. The film begins with Harikrishnan witnessing the murder of a journalist, and is wanted by police to appear at an identification parade, which he does. Hari and his friends stay at a room in Kamathipura, which also homes the largest red lighted area in India. He accidentally meets Kiran (Geetha), a Telugu girl in the brothel, for whom he develops a soft feeling. In a short attempt to make money, Hari and friends starts making local hooch, which is supplied by Manikandan (Jagadish), their friend, who is also a taxi driver. Shekhar (Shankar), one among the guys falls in love with the sister of Mani, without the knowledge of anyone else.
