As described in a film magazine, the grandfather of Willie Carleton (Gordon) put his will in a book about pirates and buried treasure, and the book is purchased by a second-hand store run by Angus MacTavish (Aitken), who lives with his granddaughter Mary (Pickford) and a young author named Jim Gleason (MacLean). After the book comes into the hands of Mary and Jim, a lawyer and the former private secretary for Carleton's grandfather attempt to buy it back, but Mary has found a paper with a map showing where buried treasure may be found. Carleton agrees to share the treasure with the MacTavish crowd if they help find it. It is located at an old farm once owned by the elder Carleton, but now belongs to Lem Butterfield (Hutchinson). Pretending to be geologists looking for specimens, they convince the Butterfield to allow them to dig holes all over the place. The suspicions of neighbors and the constable are aroused, and the lawyer and private secretary arrive and attempt to stop the digging. A box is found, and when opened contains a note saying that the treasure mentioned in the will is the good health Willie Carleton will have from all of the exercise spent digging. When they return to the city, it turns out that this was a test as the lawyer has been holding the Carleton fortune in trust. Mary, who bought the farm with money left to her by her mother, sells it for a profit to a man who plans to run a railroad through it. Jim Gleason sells one of his novels to a publisher, and then has the courage to ask Mary a question, which at the end she gives an answer that pleases Jim and they embrace., 1h1

As summarized in a film publication, Monte Brewster's (Arbuckle) two grandfathers, one rich and the other a self-made man, squabble as to the way the infant should be raised. The mother steps in and decides to raise the child her way, which results in Monte being a clerk in a steamship office at the age of 21. At this point the grandfathers get together again, with one grandfather giving him $1 million, and the other offering $4 million provided that at the end of one year Monte spends the $1 million given by the other grandfather. Other conditions include that he be absolutely "broke" at the end of one year, that he not marry for five years, and not to tell any one of the arrangement. Young Brewster tries everything he can to get rid of the money, but everything he does and the wildest chances he takes result in more money for him. He hires three men to help him spend the money, but they take too much interest in investing it wisely. They hire Peggy Gray (Clarke) for a position in Monte's office to manage his affairs so that he will not lose his money. Peggy purchases some mines in Peru and a ship Monte has hired for a pleasure cruise is used to go to Peru, but they never get there. They rescue a ship in distress and then are forced to turn back. At the last minute Monte is dead broke but married to Peggy. But the salvage on the ship Monte rescued brings him $2 million, and the Peruvian government extends the time for working the mines, so everything ends happy., 1h28

Francis Warren (Errol Flynn) appears to have a normal life handling investments, but secretly he writes lurid detective novels under the pseudonym F.X. Pettijohn. His other career is unknown to wife Rita (Brenda Marshall) or to anyone but Inspector Mason (Alan Hale), who mocks the books, insisting that true crime is much more difficult to solve. A man named Leopold Fissue (Noel Madison) turns up, wanting Francis to help him turn uncut diamonds into cash. Fissue's body is then found murdered on a yacht. The trail leads Francis to burlesque dancer Blondie White (Lee Patrick), who becomes his prime suspect. But her dentist, Dr. Davis (Ralph Bellamy), gives her a solid alibi. Rita becomes sure that Francis is having an affair. Blondie turns up dead, though, after asking Francis to retrieve a satchel from a locker. Rita thinks Francis must have killed Blondie, while her husband believes just the opposite to be true. The diamonds are in the suitcase. Francis concludes that only one man could be behind all this—Davis, the dentist, who promptly tries to kill Francis before the police can figure things out., 55minutes
