Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu (English: Buddha & Chaplin Smile) is an upcoming 2014 Malayalam film directed by R. Sarath. The film stars Indrans in the lead role and co-stars Jagadheesh, Nedumudi Venu, Nandhu, P. Balachandran, Praveena, Sharvari Jamenis, and Malavika Menon in supporting roles.

Synopsis

It is a hundred years since Charlie Chaplin, artist nonpareil, appeared on the silver screen mesmerising audiences across the globe. His signature moustache and derby that have left their indelible imprint on the annals of film history. Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu is a film that pays homage to Chaplin at the centennial commemoration of his acting career. The film portrays an Indian comedian, Indragupthan, who idolises Chaplin. He believes his life resembles Chaplin's and nurtures the desire to depict his hero on the big screen. However, he rules out a blind imitation of the late legend. The narrative revolves around his disintegrating family life and his quest for true love. The dilemma that ensues is the crux of the story. In the struggle to discover himself Indragupthan is entrapped in a world of make belief. The film is a unique marriage of the serious and the comic - one complementing the other. Indragupthan realises finally that the wheel of life has left him stranded in the twilight zone between real and unreal.

The movie begins with the arrival of Seelabathi (Kavya Madhavan) and her mother Sumangala (Urmila Unni) to Kerala from Bengal. Their parents accuse that it is due to the new teacher’s computer courses that such incidents were happening in the village. Then the story continues telling how Sheelabathi overcomes to all problems.

The story centers on Kasinathan (Mohanlal), a pragmatic but playful businessman keen on general welfare of his men also running a resort and massage parlour as a side business. The burning issue of providing drinking water supply to Udayankara colony is time and again sabotaged by Cherpunkal Shankar Das (Saikumar), a wily and unscrupulous politician of crassiest morals who is intent on teaching a lesson to the alleged loyalty of the people who continue to support righteous politicians. The reciprocal justice is carried out by Kasinathan who in a strategic move corners Shankar Das in a compromising position with a serial actress (Maya Viswanath)and blackmails him to release permission for water supply in the village. Shankar Das is forced to resign from the cabinet. Ensuing celebration is amply enjoyed in a rain dance song by Kasinathan with all and sundry of his devoted satellites including characters Murugan (Jagadish), Vellapulli Mathachan (Jagathy Sreekumar), Tomi (Vijayakumar), Basheer (Salim Kumar) Pushpakumaran (Maniyanpilla Raju) etc.
