P. Balachandran (born 2 February 1952, in Sasthamkotta, Kerala) is a Malayalam writer, playwright, scenarist, and director. He is best known for the play Paavam Usman for which won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Professional Nataka Award in the year 1989. He has scripted many films including Punaradhivasam, Ulladakkam and Pavithram. His directorial debut is Ivan Megharoopan. He has also acted in a few films, the most notable being Trivandrum Lodge.

He is born to Padmanabha Pillai and Saraswati Bhai born on 2 February 1952, in Sasthamkotta, Kerala. He is married to Sreelatha and the couple have two children, Sreekanth, Parvathy.

It is a hundred years since Charlie Chaplin, artist nonpareil, appeared on the silver screen mesmerising audiences across the globe. His signature moustache and derby that have left their indelible imprint on the annals of film history. Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu is a film that pays homage to Chaplin at the centennial commemoration of his acting career. The film portrays an Indian comedian, Indragupthan, who idolises Chaplin. He believes his life resembles Chaplin's and nurtures the desire to depict his hero on the big screen. However, he rules out a blind imitation of the late legend. The narrative revolves around his disintegrating family life and his quest for true love. The dilemma that ensues is the crux of the story. In the struggle to discover himself Indragupthan is entrapped in a world of make belief. The film is a unique marriage of the serious and the comic - one complementing the other. Indragupthan realises finally that the wheel of life has left him stranded in the twilight zone between real and unreal.

Josutty (Dileep) is the son of Joseph and Shoshamma. He belongs to a middle class traditional Christian farmer family in Kattappana, Idukki. As a child he desired is to become a priest. But eventually he falls in love with Jessy (Rachana Narayanankutty), his neighbor and childhood friend. Josutty is a sixth standard dropout. This disqualification becomes a barrier for him to marry her. Josutty's family was in deep debt and had sisters who where of age to marry off, yielding to the advice from his friends and relatives he agrees to marry Rose (Jyothi Krishna), a divorcee nurse settled in New Zealand. Soon after the marriage, he immigrates to New Zealand with his wife. Upon reaching there, Josutty's life turns upside down. Rose's bipolar affections confuses Josutty and later he finds out his wife is pursuing an extramarital life with her former boyfriend. All of a sudden he realizes, he is a "total square" and that everything he believed to be true throughout life was wrong and he vows to make money. His friend Priya and Devassy helps him to run a restaurant and he slowly grows economically. He falls for Priya and works for 9 years in New Zealand. After his father's death he goes back to Kattappana facing repressed realities of emptiness in his life from the passing away of his mother, father and close friend. There he meets a door to door sales woman(Nayantara) and marries her and vows to have more children than his first love and neighbor Jessy with the intend to "live life to the fullest".

Five friends Aadi (Asif Ali), Rafeeq (Vishnu Raghav), C P (Aju Varghese), Pauly (Sajid), and Balu (Annjo) are graduates in automobile engineering and are so close to each other. Aadi has a love affair which adds more color to his life. At a special circumstance Aadi acquaints a middle aged man George Koshy Anthrapper (Biju Menon). He walks with the help of a walking stick. So they go to Malika and ask her if she knows Sam. She tells them that some years ago he had come to the palace and had met her sister Arathi and that they fell in love. But the royal family didn't accept their love and so they tried to run away from that palace. Several royal soldiers chased Arathi and Sam down through a waterfall. They try to escap by a boat, Sam tells Arathi to stay on the boat till he unhooks it.But when he unhooks the boat The soldiers came so he couldn't help Arathi to escape from the boat. But the soldiers didn't help Arathi, this makes jojy think that someone in the palace doesn't want Arathi to live.
