Sayahnam (English: Twilight) is a 2000 Malayalam feature film that marks the directorial debut of R. Sarath with screenplay by himself. The film is a drama centred on the environmental and anti-nuclear issue in India. It stars O. Madhavan, Gomathi Mahadevan, Ebrahim Kutty, Alex Kadavil, Jomol and Remya Nambeesan. It won seven Kerala State Film Awards and two National Film Awards.

Synopsis

An old man K.K. Madhavan noted for his thinking and stance on social issues is proud of his scientist son Siddharthan but upset about the country's involvement in nuclear tests. He continues his crusade against nuclear weapons but together with his loyal wife Bharathi finds himself increasingly isolated as his own son, his party and the country celebrate the nuclear advances made in India.

In the struggle to discover himself Indragupthan is entrapped in a world of make belief. The film is a unique marriage of the serious and the comic - one complementing the other. Indragupthan realises finally that the wheel of life has left him stranded in the twilight zone between real and unreal.

The movie begins with the arrival of Seelabathi (Kavya Madhavan) and her mother Sumangala (Urmila Unni) to Kerala from Bengal. Though Sumangala returns to Bengal, Seelabathi stays behind because she gets a temporary job as a computer teacher in a school, for a few months. She stays with her grandparents. Her grandfather (Nedumbram Gopi) is a farmer who loves farming more than perhaps anything else. And in school, she soon gets adapted to things and becomes friendly with her students. Sheelabathi also meets a young doctor Jeevan ( Narain), with whom she becomes very friendly. In the village there are people who come to dig huge bore-wells and consequently there is much of water scarcity. And young students disappear mysteriously from the school and end up being sexually exploited. Their parents accuse that it is due to the new teacher’s computer courses that such incidents were happening in the village. Then the story continues telling how Sheelabathi overcomes to all problems.

Parudeesa tells the story of a Catholic parish in a hillside village in Kerala. Dr. Ravi Tharakan (Prithviraj) is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon working in a private hospital. Ayalum Njanum Thammil begins with a traumatised girl being brought to the hospital. Ravi decides to operate the girl for free, but much against the wish of her father. The girl dies during the surgery. Her father and a few local politicians accuses Dr. Tharakan for the death and protests in the hospital. Ravi is forced to flee through the backdoor, followed by the girl's relatives. He has an accident on the way and goes missing without any traces. The girl's death gains media attention and the police starts a thorough search for Dr. Ravi. The hospital management clears their hand by sacking Dr. Ravi but the chairman's private secretary Diya (Rima Kallingal) expresses dissatisfaction over the hospital's decision and starts a search on her own. She is very much attached to Ravi who had once convinced her the importance of following the ethics in medical profession. She meets Dr. Vivek (Narain) who is a very close friend and a former classmate of Ravi.
