Il s'agit de l'adaptation de la nouvelle Les Granges brûlées (納屋を焼) de Haruki Murakami (1983), lointainement inspirée de L'Incendiaire (Barn Burning) de William Faulkner (1939).
Synopsis
Jongsu, un jeune homme emprunté et plutôt introverti, travaille à Séoul comme livreur à mi-temps. Au cours d'une livraison, il croise sans la reconnaître Haemi, une ancienne voisine et camarade de classe, devenue animatrice d'événements commerciaux à Séoul. Elle l'identifie (ils sont originaires du même patelin : Paju, non loin de Séoul) et à son initiative, ils refont rapidement connaissance. Il a fini ses études, fait son service militaire et veut devenir écrivain ; elle apprend la pantomime et veut devenir actrice. Ils se revoient et bientôt couchent ensemble dans le petit studio où elle vit avec son chat. Presque immédiatement après, elle informe Jongsu qu'elle s'apprête à partir en voyage en Afrique noire et lui demande de bien vouloir nourrir son chat en son absence.Actors

Lee Shin-ae (Jeon Do-yeon) and her only child move to the small town of Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province. Her husband has recently died and she has decided to start life anew back in the hometown of her deceased husband. While entering Miryang, Shin-ae's car breaks down along a rural highway. Upon his release from prison, Hong Jong-du (Sol Kyung-gu) goes looking for his relatives in Seoul. His brothers have moved and neither they and nor their mother are aware Jong-du is back on the streets after serving a three-year prison term for a hit-and-run accident. He quickly discovers that during his absence his family has moved without telling him. Oblivious to society's rules, Jong-du again ends up in police custody for non-payment of a restaurant bill. He is bailed out by his younger brother Jong-sae (Ryoo Seung-wan) and reunited with his estranged family who reluctantly take him back in. Eighteen-year-old Do Wan-deuk (Yoo Ah-in) lives with his hunchback father Gak-seol (Park Su-yeong) and stuttering uncle Min-gu (Kim Young-jae), former cabaret clowns now having to work in open-air markets after the closure of the nightclub they used for many years.
