Count Your Blessings is a 1959 drama film made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was directed by Jean Negulesco, written and produced by Karl Tunberg, based on the 1951 novel The Blessing by Nancy Mitford. The music score was by Franz Waxman and the cinematography by George J. Folsey and Milton R. Krasner. The costume design was by Helen Rose.

The film stars Deborah Kerr, Rossano Brazzi and Maurice Chevalier with Martin Stephens, Ronald Squire, Patricia Medina and Mona Washbourne.

The film was shot in London and Paris.

Synopsis

While visiting Grace Allingham in wartime London at the behest of Hugh Palgrave, his friend, Charles is charmed by her and abruptly proposes marriage. They marry, but during the honeymoon Charles reports back to military duty.

A young American secretary, Maria Williams (Maggie McNamara), arrives in Rome and is greeted by Anita Hutchins (Jean Peters), the woman she is replacing at the United States Distribution Agency. Maria and Francis throw in their coins, but Anita, who is returning to the United States to marry, declines.

200px Catholic girl Patsy (Donna Corcoran) lives in an orphanage in Quebec. After the orphanage burns down due to Patsy's accidentally knocking over a lamp, she finds a new home with the McChesney couple, who live in Protestant Ottawa. While Victoria McChesney (Greer Garson) is excited about the new family member, Patrick McChesney (Walter Pidgeon) reacts reluctantly as he was uninformed of the adoption, and is also a candidate for the Parliament in Ottawa. After Victoria overcomes a case of mycetism caused by Patsy collecting poisonous mushrooms, Patsy is suspected of causing the flame cleaning of the local school. The examination of the case finds no concrete evidence against Patsy. McChesney declares to give up his candidature in order to accept Patsy as his daughter. Patsy, however, flees. In the meantime, her innocence is proven. Patsy is found again and accepted in the McChesney home as their daughter.
