As described in a review in a film publication, Newton Craddock (O'Malley), a shipping clerk who makes $30 per week, loves his wife Millie (Chadwick) even though she is running him into debt through her extravagance. Thomas Kirtland (Kerry) has the same problem with his wife Dorothy (Windsor) even though he makes $30,000 per year. After a fight with his wife, Newton decides to kill himself but is stopped by some wharf workers. Newton is given $5 to deliver a package to the Kirtlands' apartment and, after finding the door open, lets himself in. He sees some of Dorothy's expensive gowns hanging there and exchanges them for the cheap gowns that he had purchased as a peace offering to his wife. He also helps himself to some liquor and sits down, only to find that the Kirtlands have returned home. Dorothy is suspicious of her husband and during an exchange of strong words notes the gowns. Newton then comes forward to explain what happened. Thomas refuses to be submissive any longer and dictates the new policy of the household. Newton returns to his home with the same strategy and finds his wife eager to bend to his will. Happiness then reigns in both households.

Mynderse Van Dyun, un vieil aristocrate new-yorkais, n'a qu'un but dans la vie, marier sa petite-fille Catherine à son petit-fils Pell bien qu'ils soient cousins, car ce mariage perpétuerait le nom de la famille. Or Catherine aime en fait Paul La Farge et déteste son cousin, accro à la drogue. De plus Pell a séduit la bonne de Catherine, Nora Duffy, et l'a épousée secrètement. Nora meurt en couches et le bébé est amené chez les Van Dyun alors que, quelques jours plus tôt, Pell est mort après avoir été poussé par la fenêtre par son valet, lors d'une dispute à propos de drogue. Le vieil homme refusant de reconnaître l'enfant, Catherine et Paul l'adoptent, puis quittent la maison des Van Dyun pour se marier. Cinq ans plus tard, Catherine rend visite à son grand-père avec l'enfant, et le vieil aristocrate finit par admettre que le garçon mérite de porter son nom.

"Tough Luck" Baxter et "Happy Jack" Clarke, deux prospecteurs, décident de retourner à Baxter City, une ville devenue fantôme quand l'or y a fait défaut. Dès son arrivée dans la ville déserte, elle décide d'en partir. Perdue dans le désert, elle est secourue par Danny Ward, un ancien athlète, qui la ramène à Baxter City. Se retrouvant ensemble, Tough Luck, Clarke, Danny et Firefly s'organisent et finissent par trouver de l'or. Danny, amoureux de Firefly, lui propose de l'épouser, mais le même soir son mari arrive en ville. Wilcox tente de voler l'or, il est attrapé et jeté hors de la ville. Par loyauté, Firefly l'accompagne. Danny les suit et trouve Firefly, abandonnée dans le désert par Wilcox après qu'il lui a volé son argent et son eau. Justice est rendue quand Wilcox meurt après avoir été mordu par des serpents à sonnette. Firefly peut alors revenir à Baxter City avec Danny.

Wylie Thornton is the star of "Isle of Romance" at the Edwin Booth Theater. He is two-timing his wife, Alma Thornton, as well as Lola Cresmer, her sister Anice Cresmer, and Doris Manning, three actresses in the play. Thornton has been nice to Geraldine, the chimpanzee, and she has a crush on the handsome man. Geraldine has figured out how to open and close her wheeled cage, numbered "7", which is in the Property Room of the theater. Mack, the property master, does not like that, or her, and mistreats the "monk". In the Property Room, Geraldine gets her hands on a .32 caliber unrifled revolver and in handling the gun, accidentally fires it.
