Synopsis
Henri Désiré Landru est un personnage ambigu. Marié et père de famille, il est à la fois un grand séducteur et un petit escroc : il séduit les femmes pour les voler. Maniaque, Landru consigne minutieusement ses méfaits dans un petit carnet qui révélera à la police le nom de 283 femmes qu'il aurait abusées. Il sera condamné à mort pour avoir tué 11 d'entre elles. Son procès déchaîna haine et passion, à l'image de sa personnalité double.Actors

A body is discovered on a collective farm during harvesting in 1982. A subsequent search of adjacent woods, authorized by newly installed official, Viktor Burakov, turns up seven more bodies in varying stages of decomposition. The film tells the story of the subsequent eight-year hunt by forensic specialist Burakov for the serial killer responsible for the mutilation and murder of over 50 people, 35 of them below the age of 18. Burakov is promoted to detective and eventually aided, covertly at first, by Col. Graham Young has been obsessed with death and the macabre since childhood. He is highly intelligent, with an aptitude for chemistry; he dreams of poisoning as many people as he can. In his teen years, he actually poisons a schoolmate — which made him ill rather than killing him — in order to date a girl his schoolmate was seeing. His conversation with his date involved vivid, graphic descriptions of deadly car accidents. He also reads a comic book account of an event in which the Dutch Resistance killed a whole German army camp in the occupied Netherlands during the Second World War by poisoning their water supply with thallium.
