The film depicts the love lives of the dancers in a musical dance troupe. It stars Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles, with Akshay Kumar in a supporting role. It was Khan's third collaboration with Yash Raj Films after Darr (1993) and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). The soundtrack was composed by Uttam Singh, while the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. The film was screened retrospective, during the 2014 International Film Festival of India in the Celebrating Dance in Indian cinema section.
It was the first Bollywood film to be shot in Baden-Baden and Europa Park, both German tourist attractions.
Dil To Pagal Hai was a major commercial success, and became highest grossing Indian film of the year worldwide. The film garnered praise for its storyline and soundtrack. Additionally, the film won three National Film Awards and eight Filmfare Awards.
The film has attained cult status over the years and is regarded as one of Chopra's best.
Synopsis
Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) and Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) are members of a massive dance troupe. They are the best of friends, although Nisha is secretly in love with Rahul. Rahul announces his desire to direct a musical named Maya. The members of the troupe, including Nisha, have their doubts about the title character when Rahul describes "Maya" as a girl who believes in true love and waits for her prince charming who will surely turn up and take her away.Meanwhile, Pooja (Madhuri Dixit) also has a passion for dancing. Having been orphaned at a young age, she has been raised by close friends of her parents.Actors

Kiran (Juhi Chawla) is a college student who is on her way home for Holi break one year when she hears a man serenading her across the campus in Simla. Samar Anand (Shahrukh Khan), a major in the Indian Army, defuses a bomb in Ladakh without fear or regard for his safety. Rahul Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali Sharma (Kajol) are best friends in St. Xavier's College. The college principal Mr. Malhotra (Anupam Kher) has a beautiful daughter Tina (Rani Mukerji), who comes to St. Xavier's from London to finish her degree. Shekhar (Sanjay Kapoor) and Nandini (Karisma Kapoor) are friends living in Canada with their two uncles. Shekhar proposes to Nandini and she says yes and now they have a young son named Raja. Shekhar hears breaking news of violence in India, the family journeys to his ancestral house in rural North-East State of India and Nandini is shocked to see that Shekhar's family is embroiled in feudal gang wars. Shekhar's father is Narasimha (Nana Patekar). Shekhar tries to bring peace between the warring gangs, but is attacked by the rival gang & killed on way to a re-conciliatory meeting that he wanted to attend on his father's behalf. Nandini feels insecure and decides to leave India with her son but Narasimha imprisons them. Desperate to escape, she goes on a difficult journey to return to Canada with the help of Shekhar's mother and sister. Wanted by Narasimha, Nandini seeks help from drifter Jai Singh (Shahrukh Khan) who after hesitation, helps her and her son board a train to Jaipur. In order to protect Nandini and her son, Jai fights with the goon and dies after killing the goons. Meanwhile, Shekhar's mother begs his father to let Nandini and her son go. However, Narasimha goes but at the airport, he gets emotional and after kissing his grandson, allows them to go. The films ends with Nandini along with her son boarding a plane to Canada.
