Drushyam (English: Visual) is a 2014 Indian Telugu thriller film directed by Sripriya and jointly produced by Daggubati Suresh Babu and Rajkumar Sethupathi. It is a remake of Jeethu Joseph‍‍ '​‍s 2013 Malayalam film Drishyam and features Daggubati Venkatesh, Meena and Nadhiya reprising the respective roles played by Mohanlal, Meena and Asha Sarath in the original.

The film tells the story of Rambabu, a middle-class cable TV operator, and his family. They come under suspicion when Varun, the son of the Inspector-general of police (IG), goes missing soon after harassing Rambabu's daughter. The rest of the film reveals how Varun disappeared and what Rambabu does to keep his family from going to prison.

The production work of Drushyam was undertaken by Suresh Balaje and George Pious. Music for the film was composed by Sharreth. The cinematography was led by S. Gopal Reddy and the editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh. Principal photography commenced on 8 March 2014 and lasted three months. It was shot primarily in Kerala, similar to the original, and also filmed at Araku, Simhachalam, Vizianagaram and Hyderabad. The post-production phase ended after one month. Drushyam released on 11 July 2014 to positive feedback from critics. It went on to become one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year, collecting a worldwide distributor share of ₹200 million.

Synopsis

Rambabu is a cable network operator who lives in Rajavaram, a village located in the Araku region, with his wife Jyothi and their daughters – Anju, a twelfth-grade student, and Anu, who is in secondary school. By virtue of his job, Rambabu spends a lot of time watching films in multiple languages. He does so with so much interest that he makes major life decisions by subconsciously taking on the behaviors of characters from these films.

Venkateswarlu (Venkatesh) arrive at the town and gets appointed as a Telugu lecturer in the junior college where he completed his education. He is fooled by the students headed by a brilliant but mischievous student Roja (Aparna). Venteswarulu is irritated by her indiscipline and finds fault for whatever she does. The story begins starts with the birth of a baby girl, Nandini, in the world of feudal landlords (Zamindars) whose word is a law for the villagers who work on their land. Angry, Thangaraj insults Rajakumaran's father in public and Rajakumaran's father died. Yuvaraj asks to Selvaraj and Thangaraj to marry Selvi, and they accept. The village was against the marriage. A man (R. V. Udayakumar) came and said that a deaf-mute girl, who learnt to read and to write, was the witness of Vaidehi's murder by Yuvaraj. On the marriage day, Yuvaraj cancelled the marriage and decided to humiliate Selvi. Rajakumaran saves her and he decides to marry her.

A district collector, a judge, and a police official are all kidnapped in broad daylight. The kidnapper cocking-a-snook at the establishment, calling himself 'Citizen' and appearing in different disguises to get at his targets. C.B.I. officer Sarojini (Nagma) finally traces the common factor among the kidnapped trio to the fictional hamlet of Athippatti, consisting of fishermen. But to her surprise both the village and its 690 odd inhabitants seemed to have been wiped away from the face of the official gazette maps. The diggings tell a story of a mass massacre that must have taken place about a couple of decades back. 'Citizen' is finally apprehended. He comes out with his story of the gory happenings at Athippatti and how he, as a little boy, had been the sole survivor of the nightmare that gripped the village that day from the map of India, twenty years back. The entire village was wiped off including women and children by the three kidnapped officials because of their greed for power and money. Ajith wants the citizenship of the three government officials revoked including their families as a punishment for their atrocities to the inhabitants of Athippatti.
