The film opened to positive reviews in June 2001 and was a commercial success at the box office.
Synopsis
A district collector, a judge, and a police official are all kidnapped in broad daylight. The kidnapper cocking-a-snook at the establishment, calling himself 'Citizen' and appearing in different disguises to get at his targets. C.B.I. officer Sarojini (Nagma) finally traces the common factor among the kidnapped trio to the fictional hamlet of Athippatti, consisting of fishermen. But to her surprise both the village and its 690 odd inhabitants seemed to have been wiped away from the face of the official gazette maps. The diggings tell a story of a mass massacre that must have taken place about a couple of decades back. 'Citizen' is finally apprehended. He comes out with his story of the gory happenings at Athippatti and how he, as a little boy, had been the sole survivor of the nightmare that gripped the village that day from the map of India, twenty years back. The entire village was wiped off including women and children by the three kidnapped officials because of their greed for power and money. Ajith wants the citizenship of the three government officials revoked including their families as a punishment for their atrocities to the inhabitants of Athippatti.Actors

Shivashankar (Ajith Kumar), a wheelchair user, has a son, Vishnu (also Ajith Kumar) who is playful and irresponsible. To teach him a lesson, he sends Vishnu to Thottapuram to help the poor. Vishnu doesn't want to go, but a local pizza restaurateur convinces Vishnu and his friends that the village is one big brothel. In reality, Thottapuram is a sacred village and the restaurateur had purposefully deceived Vishnu and his friends. Also visiting the village are Divya (Asin Thottumkal) and her classmates. They come for their social activity course to improve the village's health and hygiene. A large building is reserved for him and the girls are asked to stay in the poor families' houses. Vishnu and his friends arrive and start to woo the girls, whom they mistake for Thottapuram's prostitutes. When Divya discovers their plan, she and her friends decide to teach Vishnu and his friends a lesson.

The film begins with the murder of a politician committed by the terrorist Azhagam Perumal (Anandaraj). Bala Govind (Allu Arjun) is a program director in MAA TV. His fights for justice regularly get him into trouble. During one of these incidents, he saves a person (Raja Ravindra) from goons while severely thrashing Murugan (Subbaraju), son of the notorious smuggler Tambi Durai (Pradeep Rawat). Fearing retribution from Tambi Durai, the MAA TV crew sends Bala's team to Kullu Manali to shoot a travel episode instead of another team. There, Bala sees Vaishali (Hansika Motwani), who is a sannyasin. It is love at first sight for Bala. Vaishali, though initially apprehensive of Bala falls for him. The head sannyasin of the ashram Rama Prabha (Rama Prabha) unites the couple. However, before Bala is able to return to Hyderabad with Vaishali and marry her, Tambi Durai's henchmen kidnap her and take her his home. Bala returns to Hyderabad and finds that she is with Tambi Durai. The person who was saved by Bala reveals that Vaishali is the daughter of Narayan Patwari (Devan). In order to grab Patwari's property, Tambi Durai killed her parents and his wife (Telangana Shakuntala) performed the marriage of Vaishali with Murugan in front of their dead bodies. However, Vaishali escapes and reaches Kulu Manali. Bala takes the help of Inspector Prasad (Ahuti Prasad) to save Vaishali from their clutches and eventually succeeds in his attempt and marries her.
