Escape Me Never is a 1935 British drama film directed by Paul Czinner, produced by Herbert Wilcox, and starring Elisabeth Bergner, Hugh Sinclair and Griffith Jones. The film is an adaptation of the play Escape Me Never by Margaret Kennedy; a later adaptation was the 1947 Warner Bros. version. The score is by William Walton. Bergner was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, but lost out to Bette Davis. British readers of Film Weekly magazine voted the 1935 Best Performance category in a British movie to her.

Duke Frederick (Felix Aylmer) has usurped and deposed his older brother, Duke Senior (Henry Ainley). Frederick allows the exiled Duke's daughter, Rosalind (Elisabeth Bergner), however, to stay, as she is the closest friend of his daughter, Celia (Sophie Stewart). Orlando (Laurence Olivier), who has been forced to flee his home due to the oppression from his brother, Oliver (John Laurie), comes to the Frederick's Duchy, and enters a wrestling tournament. On leaving the Duchy, Orlando encounters Rosalind, and it is love at first sight. Frederick then becomes angry, and banishes Rosalind. Celia decides to accompany her, along with a jester, Touchstone (Mackenzie Ward).

This historical drama recounts the events that led to the accession of Catherine the Great, Empress of all the Russias. The film opens with the arrival of Princess Sophie Auguste Frederika – whose name would be changed to ‘Catherine’ – from her father’s court of Anhalt-Zerbst (in modern Germany) to the court of the Empress Elizabeth. L'histoire commence au moment d'un concert au cours duquel est donné le concerto en ré majeur de Beethoven pour violon et orchestre. Romaine, femme mystérieuse, est dans la salle de concert. Pierre, son mari, est premier violon de l’Orchestre Colonne. Ce soir-là, elle découvre Marcel, brillant soliste du concerto, et en tombe amoureuse. Pierre et Marcel sont amis, ce qui complique la situation. Pierre invite son ami à la maison, sans se douter de ce qui va se passer. La jeune femme, cherchant à trouver un habile prétexte pour un rendez-vous en tête-à-tête, révèle rapidement ses sentiments à Marcel. Ce dernier est sensible au charme de Romaine, mais ne souhaite pas trahir Pierre. Elle joue du piano, et tout serait presque simple si elle n’avait pas choisi d’aimer deux hommes – à l'amitié solide - en même temps.

La jeune Renée est une jeune femme exubérante qui aime s'amuser. Elle entretient une relation très étroite avec son jeune père, ce qui aggrave encore sa relation avec sa belle-mère.
