La jeune Renée est une jeune femme exubérante qui aime s'amuser. Elle entretient une relation très étroite avec son jeune père, ce qui aggrave encore sa relation avec sa belle-mère. Un jour, elle presse son mari de « déporter » Renée sans plus tarder. La jeune fille doit alors déménager dans un internat en Suisse. Mais la fille autodéterminée se révèle vite rebelle. Son attitude rebelle est considérée comme un mauvais comportement et conduit la belle-mère, à peine plus âgée qu'elle, à demander à son mari de laisser Renée là-bas pour les vacances à venir.

Peter, musicien d'orchestre, s'inquiète assez pour sa jeune femme, Gaby. Quand elle rencontre l'ami de Pierre, Michael, elle tombe amoureuse du virtuose du violon, mais à partir de là elle vit avec conscience. Duke Frederick (Felix Aylmer) has usurped and deposed his older brother, Duke Senior (Henry Ainley). Orlando (Laurence Olivier), who has been forced to flee his home due to the oppression from his brother, Oliver (John Laurie), comes to the Frederick's Duchy, and enters a wrestling tournament. On leaving the Duchy, Orlando encounters Rosalind, and it is love at first sight. Frederick then becomes angry, and banishes Rosalind. Celia decides to accompany her, along with a jester, Touchstone (Mackenzie Ward).
