Ferdowsi (Ferdausi) (Persian title: Ferdosi- Persian: فردوسی‎‎) is a 1934 Iranian biography drama film directed by Abdolhossein Sepanta and starring Nosratollah Mohtasham, Abdolhossein Sepanta and Sohrab Pouri.

The movie is about Iranian famous poet Ferdowsi, author of Shahnameh book of epic poems.

Synopsis

Dans la première scène du film, nous voyons Ferdowsi qui par la fenêtre de sa maison regarde tristement le pont ruiné de la ville de Tus. À la cour du sultan Mahmoud Ghaznavi, Ferdowsi récite certaines parties de Shah Nameh. La vieillesse du poète est la fin de son histoire et se passe dans l’isolement et l’amertume. De temps en temps, il entend par sa fenêtre les enfants chanter ses vers de Shah Nameh. La scène finale est celle de sa mort : deux hommes portent son cercueil, et derrière eux seule la fille du poète les suit, larmes à l’œil.

The movie is about Golnar, a young teahouse girl who was kidnapped as a child and taken to Lorestan with a clan of bandits living among the Lors. The leader of the thieves, Gholi Khan, is beginning to look at her with interest now she is a grown woman. At the teahouse, she meets a young man called Jafar who has been sent to Lorestan by the Iranian government to deal with the problem of banditry in the area. They fall in love, and plan to escape together. Gholi Khan catches on to their plans and beats up Jafar. Jafar rejects Khan's offer to join the bandits, so he is kidnapped and imprisoned. Following a news story depicting the demolition of a slum in East London, South Africa, journalist Donald Woods (Kevin Kline) seeks more information about the incident and ventures off to meet black activist Steve Biko (Denzel Washington). Biko has been officially banned by the South African government and is not permitted to leave his defined banning area at King William's Town. Woods is formally against Biko's banning, but remains critical of his political views. Biko invites Woods to visit a black township to see the impoverished conditions and to witness the effect of the government-imposed restrictions, which make up the apartheid system. Woods begins to agree with Biko's desire for a South Africa where blacks have the same opportunities and freedoms as those enjoyed by the white population. As Woods comes to understand Biko's point of view, a friendship slowly develops between them.

XVI siècle. Genichiro et sa sœur Shinobu désirent venger leur père tué par le clan des Samoto. Ils s'adressent au célèbre sabreur Musashi Miyamoto. Ils font partie intégrante d'un apprentissage spirituel conduisant sur la voie de la sagesse. Il accepte, pourtant, de leur enseigner son savoir et de les entraîner en conséquence. Quelque temps plus tard, Genichiro meurt au combat face à un autre grand duelliste, Kojirō Sasaki. Ce dernier défie, en même temps, Miyamoto qui, touché dans son honneur, n'a plus qu'une pensée : affronter son adversaire afin d'établir sa suprématie.
