Billa (Rajinikanth) is a powerful mafia lord, who in spite of being one of the most wanted on the list of Interpol, remains elusive to the police. Along with the police, he makes a few other enemies through his merciless approach in running his organisation, especially when he kills one of his own men, Rajesh, when Rajesh decides to leave the business. This introduces Billa to two new enemies, Kamini (Helen), Rajesh’s fiancee, and Priya, (Sripriya) Rajesh’s sister. When Kamini seduces Billa and attempts to have the police arrest him, her plan backfires as Billa outsmarts her and escapes, and in the process Kamini was killed.

Anand (Rajinikanth) is motorcycle champion for six years in a row. Winning the championship brings him the introduction of Uma (Jyothi), the daughter of Thilakavathy (Sukumari); a haughty, rich woman. Uma thinks anand has a too dark complexion but soon turns into love. But Thilakavathy deceives Anand and Uma into thinking that she agrees to their wedding while secretly planning to get Uma married someone else. Aiyampettai Arivudainambi Kaliyaperumal Chandran (A.A.K. Chandran for short) (Rajinikanth) is a playful young man. Upon completion of his degree, his father's friend and business partner (Poornam Viswanathan) advises him to attend an interview for a job at his friend Sri Ramachandramurthy's (Thengai Srinivasan) company. The doctor advises Chandran to act in a manner most appreciated by Sri Ramachandramurthy: namely, wearing a Nehru kurta, always telling his full name, giving importance to his moustache, showing a lack of interest in sports and drama, showing respect for his father's words (i.e., by repeating the phrase "My father always told me" often) and detesting the concept of recommendations.

Rajasekaran (Major Sundarrajan) is a rich man who is in possession of an antique sword that holds the key to a treasure. Nagalingam (Thengai Srinivasan), a criminal, makes several unsuccessful attempts to steal the sword from Rajasekaran. On one such attempts Anand (Jaishankar) saves Rajasekaran and becomes his trusted guy to protect the sword. Raju(Rajnikanth), an orphan who is being raised by an alcoholic, ex-thief Rajasingam (M.N Nambiar), is an expert in boosting cars and Anita (##Anita Raj) is his love interest. Several years back Rajasingam had stolen a car owned by Nagalingam with a child inside without knowing that the car and the child (Raju) actually belonged to Rajasekaran. One day Rajasingam spots Nagalingam in a shopping complex and believing that Raju is the son of Nagalingam, he hands Raju to him as his own son. Nagalingam deceitfully accepts Raju as his son and cleverly employs him to steal the sword from Rajasekaran, his real father. While Raju attempts to steal the sword, Anand keeps thwarting him. Despite Anand's efforts Raju manages to loot the sword but then discovers that he's actually the son of Rajasekaran and he himself had been instrumental in stealing his own family treasure for the wrong men. With the help of Anand, Raju fights with Nagalingam's gang to successfully retrieve their family treasure and reunites with his family.

Satyamoorthy is a wealthy diamond business man and a widower living with his younger brother Raja (Rajinikanth) and two daughters Radha and Chitra. Satyamoorthy is a great devotee of saints and priests trusting all of them to be genuine whereas Raja is a happy go lucky guy just opposite to his brother who does not trust any of them. Satyamoorthy once invites a priest to his home to perform rituals to drive away all evil surrounding his house not knowing that the priest is a fake and member of a robber gang. Satyamoorthy takes him to his treasury room where he had stored his huge wealth and tells him the secret of unlocking his lockers. The fake priest pretends to give a sacred sheet and instructs to place it inside the locker which shall protect the stuffs. As Raja suspected, the priest sends the robbers at night to loot the wealth but Raja wakes up and fights with them and restores the looted property. Raja's repeated attempts to prove that the priest is fake goes vain as Satyamoorthy believes strongly that Raja protected the wealth only because of the divine power of the sacred sheet.
