Lieutenant Raymond "Ray" Dower (Ralph Bellamy) commands a United States Coast Guard rescue ship. His best friend in the Coast Guard, Lieutenant Thomas "Speed" Bradshaw (Randolph Scott), is a highly regarded, but reckless pilot.
