Based on the novel of the same name by Nicci French (pen name of Nicci Gerrard and Sean French), it introduces several substantial changes to the story and focuses heavily on the intense sexual relationship between the two lead characters, including several nude scenes.
The film was given an "R" rating by the MPAA, and was released unrated on DVD. It also was Kaige's first, and to date only English-language film.
Synopsis
A voice over describes how the brain begins to shut down at an altitude of 20,000 feet, the human body unable to survive at such heights. A mountaineering group is shown climbing a cliff face in the snow, until an avalanche causes the rigging to break and they fall to their deaths.Actors

In the late 1950s, the Dollanganger family – 14-year-old Chris, 12-year-old Cathy, 4-year-old twins Carrie and Cory and their parents Christopher and Corrine – live happily together in Pennsylvania. Emery Simms is a highly educated and successful business tycoon whose life takes a turn for the worse when he engages in an adulterous fling with the wildly free-spirited and exotic Allanah James. Emery kills a man who tries to get information out of him, which is then witnessed by another man who flees. Emery does not notice the dead man's cell phone, which has all their calls logged in. He then makes a phone call to his friend who does not answer. Later he meets Allanah whose car has broken down. He gives her a ride to her job unaware she is working an angle to get what she wants. He then calls her and insists they have dinner. They do but the police follow them seeing them make out as does a man that is following her. The crazed man comes to the restaurant and attacks Emery. Emery goes to see Allanah and sees the place she lives in then takes her to one of his properties, which is a condo. She makes herself at home and even invites a friend over who tells her that she can keep the condo and life if there is a hole in the condom. Allannah says no. Emery drops by for sex and she has her friend wait outside so she can do what she needs to with Emery.
