Kushi (English: Happiness) is a 2000 Tamil romantic comedy film directed by S. J. Surya and produced by A. M. Rathnam. The film featured Vijay and Jyothika in the leading roles, while Mumtaj, Vivek and Vijayakumar play other supporting roles. The film had cinematography by Jeeva, while music was composed by Deva. The film opened in May 2000 to mixed reviews but became a successful venture at the box office, prompting remakes in Hindi and in Telugu as the same name and twice in Kannada as Chandu and Eno Onthara.

Synopsis

The story begins when Jenny (Jyothika) and Shiva (Vijay) are born in different states of India they meet as babies, when their parents left they were pulled apart. They are in their childhood and both want to represent their home town in a camp they are next to each other but don't speak or see each other. Ten years later, Jenny wants to pursue higher studies but her father wants her to get married. At first she gets angry at him but decides to marry according to her father's wishes. On the night of the wedding her groom elopes with his lover. Seeing Jenny depressed and disappointed, her father lets her study further. Shiva lives in a big city and is accepted to a college in Canada.

Pappu an eight-year-old boy who is very mischievous always troubling his mother. His mother scolds him when he eats the toothpaste, urinate in bed at night. Pappu falls down on a road one day and a young woman helps him. Pappu's elder brother plans to watch adults movie with his friends in the absence of their parents and Pappu wishes to join him to which his brother does not allow him. Angered, Paapu cuts off the power which creates a short circuit at home. Pappu's mother scolds for his dangerous mischief and shouts at her husband for not stopping with one child as Pappu is troubling her a lot. This hurts Pappu and he runs away from home to jump into a river. But he is stopped by an old man and he takes Pappu to his place. The old man introduces himself as a scientist who has his own laboratory. He insists Pappu to help him in his research of transforming a child to a young man. The only person other than scientist who knows the truth is his child classmate friend. Pappu meets the girl at a park who helped him once he fell down on road. Thirumalai (Vijay) mechanic who lives in Pudupet and has three close friends for whom he would do anything.
