La Terra Trema ([la ˈtɛr.ra ˈtrema] "The Earth Trembles") is a 1948 Italian dramatic film directed by Luchino Visconti. The movie is loosely adapted from Giovanni Verga's novel I Malavoglia (1881) (The House by the Medlar Tree) for the screen.

With only a few exceptions, the film follows the same plot as the opera. Iago plots and brings about Otello's downfall by convincing him that his wife Desdemona is engaged in an affair with the young lieutenant Cassio, provoking Otello to murder her in a blind rage. However, in a major change from the opera, Otello kills Iago at the end by throwing a spear at him, while in the stage version he only wounds him with his sword.

Sicily, 1860. The corpse of a Royalist soldier is found in the garden of the villa of Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina (the gardener quips that these soldiers stink as much in death as they do in life). Jusqu'à ce que le gouvernement effectif de Munich l'extirpe de son rêve et l'interne au château de Berg… où il meurt dès le lendemain de son arrivée en tentant, dans des circonstances jamais vraiment élucidées, de s'évader.
