Letters to Father Jacob (Finnish: Postia pappi Jaakobille) is a 2009 Finnish drama film written and directed by Klaus Härö. Set in the early 1970s and based on a story by Jaana Makkonen, the film tells the story of Leila, a pardoned convict, who becomes an assistant to a blind priest, Jacob. The film depicts her transformation from a sceptic who grudgingly reads letters aloud to her benefactor into a caring savior of the pastor from his despair after the letters stop coming.

Synopsis

Condamnée à perpétuité pour meurtre, Leila est mystérieusement libérée après seulement douze ans. Envoyée auprès d'un vieux prêtre aveugle et isolé pour être sa nouvelle assistante, elle devra répondre à l'abondant courrier qu'il reçoit chaque jour. Indifférente à tout cela, Leila va tenter de profiter de la cécité de son hôte.

When a young boy Saravanan is killed by rowdy - and aspiring politician - Dhanasekaran(Sayaji Shinde), his distraught mother(Vinaya Prasad) is ready to kill herself. But she is stopped by a man Mani Shankar(Vijayakumar) who promises her that her son will be reincarnated and meet her 30 years hence. The only condition is that the mother must remain inside Vaitheeswaran temple, praying to be reunited with her son. 30 years later, her wait catches the attention of the public, who are curious to see if Saravanan shows up. The Catholic Jean-Louis, (Jean-Louis Trintignant), runs into an old friend, the Marxist Vidal (Antoine Vitez), in Clermont-Ferrand around Christmas. After climbing the stairs to a deserted garret, Otto finds a girl's discarded glove and sobs, then is joined and comforted by Miep Gies (Dodie Heath) and Mr. Kraler (Douglas Spencer), factory workers who shielded him from the Nazis. After stating that he is now all alone, Otto begins to search for the diary written by his youngest daughter, Anne. Miep promptly retrieves the journal for Otto, and he receives solace reading the words written by his young daughter three years earlier.
