Add to a movie listLittle Malcolm is a 1974 British comedy drama film directed by Stuart Cooper. It was entered into the 24th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear.
The film is based on the stage play Little Malcolm and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs by David Halliwell. The full name of the play is used as the film title on the BFI Flipside 2011 DVD release.
An Apple Films project, Little Malcolm was the first feature film produced by former Beatle George Harrison. The film was shot primarily in Lancashire, in the north of England, during February and March of 1973. Harrison supplied incidental music for the soundtrack and, after being introduced to the duo Splinter by their manager Mal Evans, produced their song "Lonely Man" for inclusion in a pivotal scene.
Like many of Apple's film and recording projects, production on Little Malcolm was then jeopardised by lawsuits pertaining to Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr's severing of ties with manager Allen Klein. Speaking in 2011, Cooper recalled that Harrison "fought for a very long time to extract Little Malcolm from the official receivers"; its entry in the Berlin festival was only possible because the festival was an artistic forum and not finance-related. After what Cooper described as an "incredible" reception at Berlin for "this very British film", Little Malcolm went on to win a gold medal at the Atlanta Film Festival in August 1974. Once the Beatles' partnership had been formally dissolved in January 1975, the film received a brief run in London's West End.

Jay Mallory is a contract killer living in Montréal who works for an unknown international criminal organization. He returns home to his downtown apartment one cold winter day to find that his wife, Celandine, is gone without a trace. Mallory initially thinks that Celandine has left him on her own volition since their marriage was a sometimes stormy, albeit passionate, relationship. However, words from Mallory's main point of contact at the Organization, Burbank, indicate that Celandine's disappearance may be associated with Mallory's last hit. In Verona, Italy, the longstanding feud between the Montague and the Capulet clans breaks out in a street brawl, broken up by the Prince of the city. The same night, two teenagers of the two families — Romeo (Montague) and Juliet (Capulet) — meet at a Capulet feast and become deeply infatuated. Later, Romeo stumbles into the secluded garden under Juliet's bedroom balcony and the two exchange impassioned pledges. They are soon secretly married by Romeo's confessor and father figure, Friar Laurence, with the assistance of Juliet's nursemaid. Unfortunately, another street duel breaks out between Juliet's first cousin Tybalt and Romeo's best friend Mercutio when Tybalt insults Romeo. Since Tybalt is Juliet's cousin and Romeo has just been married to Juliet, he sees Tybalt as family and refuses to fight him, leading Mercutio to be a loyal friend and fight for him. This leads to Mercutio's death. Romeo retaliates by fighting Tybalt and killing him, and is punished by the Prince with banishment instead of the death penalty. Romeo, however, sees his banishment as worse than death, as Verona is the only home he has known and does not want to be pulled away from Juliet. Friar Laurence eventually convinces Romeo that he is very lucky and should be thankful for what he has. Romeo and Juliet secretly spend their wedding night together and consummate their marriage.

Le ménage du professeur Jozef Stock et de sa femme Mizzie bat de l'aile. Stock souffre du peu d'attention de son épouse pour lui. Celle-ci, de son côté, entreprend de séduire le docteur Franz Braun, mari d'une amie de jeunesse, Charlotte. Franz et Charlotte forment un couple aimant mais ce dernier se défend mal des avances de Mizzie. Sa courtoisie et sa maladresse l'entraînent dans des situations compromettantes. Son collègue Gustav s'en aperçoit et cherche à tirer profit de la situation pour se rapprocher de Charlotte, à qui il ne cache pas son admiration. Quant au professeur Stock, il se réjouit de la possible infidélité de Mizzie qui pourrait lui donner un motif de divorce. Il s'empresse d'ailleurs d'engager un détective pour recueillir les preuves d'une liaison. Charlotte, enfin, ne se doute de rien mais s'étonne toutefois de l'intérêt que son mari semble accorder à une autre femme, Pauline Hofer, et demande à Mizzie de le surveiller. Les mensonges et chantages de Mizzie, les imprudences de Franz, et plusieurs quiproquos font craindre une rupture du couple jusque-là uni.
