Synopsis
Mervyn Speight s'évade de prison où il était incarcéré pour meurtre. Un de ses amis engage Hugo Bishop, un avocat apprenti détective privé, pour le retrouver. Il le trouve en effet sur le lieu du meurtre. Mervyn lui dit alors qu'il espère prouver son innocence car il se souvient avoir vu un visage d'homme avant d'être assommé et arrêté. Depuis son arrestation, la femme de Mervyn, Thelma, un rédactrice dans un magazine, vit avec Victor Tasman et prétend être son épouse. Son rédacteur en chef, Maurice Jerrard, est la seule personne à savoir que son vrai mari était en prison. Bishop finit par croire en l'innocence de Mervyn et invite tous les protagonistes à une soirée. Mervyn reconnaît alors Jerrard comme son agresseur. Jerrard s'enfuit, mais finit par tomber et se tuer près de la scène de crime. Désormais libre, Mervyn voyage à travers l'Europe pour que sa femme puisse continuer à vivre avec Tasman.Actors

Several centuries later, the death of Sir Charles Baskerville is being reported by his best friend Dr. Richard Mortimer (Francis de Wolff) to Sherlock Holmes (Peter Cushing) and Dr. Watson (André Morell), who are willing to meet the new owner of Baskerville Hall, Sir Henry (Christopher Lee). After meeting Sir Henry, Holmes remembers that he is going to be away on another case when Sir Henry returns to Baskerville Hall. Holmes puts Watson in charge of watching over Sir Henry. Bookstore manager John Harman (Brent) reprimands his attractive young clerk Ruby Bruce (Dors) for being late to work. Later the same day Ruby catches small-time crook Jeff Hart (Reynolds) trying to steal a rare book. Instead of turning him in she accepts a date with him. When Harman later tries to kiss Ruby she tells Hart who forces Ruby to blackmail Harman. When he refuses to pay off, Jeff tells Ruby to write a letter to Harman's sick wife, which causes her death from a heart attack. Dazed by the tragedy, Harman gives Ruby 300 pounds when she renews her demands. Jeff catches Ruby hiding part of the money, kills her and hides her body in a packing case. Harman discovers Ruby's body and, thinking he will be accused, flees in panic. He enlists the help of his secretary Stella (Chapman) who helps him hunt for clues. When Stella stumbles on Hart alone she is nearly killed by him but Harman arrives in time to save her. The police arrest Hart.
