The film was 2006's most successful film in Morocco, scoring more than 3 million dirhams at the Moroccan box-office, according to TelQuel. It was very controversial as it deals with a Muslim/Jewish love between two young people in Casablanca, Morocco; Rita and Youri.
The film was shown in Moroccan cinemas without being edited or censored. The title Marock is a play on words based on the French name of Morocco Maroc and Rock as in Rock'n Roll. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
Synopsis
Ramadan 1997 à Casablanca : à l'approche de son baccalauréat littéraire, Rita Belghiti et ses amis de la bourgeoisie casablancaise s'amusent en contournant les lois et interdits de la société musulmane, étudient et vont a un lycée français de la haute société casablancaise, accompagnés par leurs chauffeurs ; les garçons font des courses de voitures dans la ville.Actors

Nili (Niki in the English language release, played by Anat Atzmon), a beautiful new girl comes to the school of a trio of friends; Benzi (Benjy in the English release), Momo (Bobby in the English release) and Yudale (Huey in the English release). Benzi (played by Yftach Katzur), the typical "nice guy" of the three immediately falls in love with Nili. However, Nili prefers the more pushy and experienced Momo (played by Jonathan Sagall), who is keen to have sex with Nili, a virgin. Later, it is revealed that Momo had impregnated and dumped Nili. Kadosh is a bleak drama about the narrow Israeli secular perspective on the status of women in Haredi society. In the opening scene, Meir (Yoram Hattab), a caricature of a young Talmudic scholar, thanks God in his morning prayers for not being born a woman. At first, the marriage of Meir and his wife, Rivka (Yael Abecassis), appears tender and idyllic, but as the day progresses it becomes clear that Meir is obsessed with the fact that he is childless after ten years of marriage. In 1905, Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman living in the Russian village of Anatevka, explains to the audience what keeps the Jews of Anatevka going is the balance they achieve through following their ancient traditions, comparing their precarious circumstance to a fiddler on a roof: trying to scratch out a pleasant tune, while not breaking their necks. The fiddler appears throughout the film as a metaphoric reminder of the Jews' ever-present fears and danger, and also as a symbol of the traditions Tevye is trying to hold on to as his world changes around him. While in town, Tevye meets Perchik, a radical Marxist from Kiev. Tevye invites Perchik to stay with him and his family, and as a deal, offers him food, in exchange for Perchik tutoring his daughters.
