Mukesh, Baiju, Kalabhavan Navas, Jagathy Sreekumar, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Maathu etc. played the main roles in the movie. The movie was produced by Gopikrishnan, Vinu Kiriyath and Kannan Nair under the banner of Gopurachithra who also distributed the movie. Rajan Kiriyath and Vinu Kiriyath created the story for which the script and direction was added by Udaykrishna and Siby K. Thomas. The film is considered as an All time Block Buster in Mukesh's career and was remade in Tamil as Banda Paramasivam with Prabhu and Rambha, remade in Telugu as Hungama with Ali and Venu Madhav. Bollywood blockbuster Housefull 2 was an uncredited remake of Mattupetti Machan.
Synopsis
Jagathy Sreekumar - Kumar Kubera (Kumaran) and Oduvil Unnikrishnan - Prabhakara Prabhu (Prabhakaran)are former friends, business rivals and bitter enemies. They want to outdo each other in everything, and specially when it comes to when marrying off their daughters. Manoharan Salim Kumar the marriage broker brings them many good suitors for their daughters but Kubera and Prabhu succeed in driving away the suitors. One day Manoharan brings a middle easy NRI Kottayam Nazir to see Prabhu's daughter. Nazir works in Oman but Prabhu finds him unsuitable and insults him. Nazir vows to take revenge and marry off Prabhu's daughter to the most unsuitable boy in the land. He enlists Manoharan's help to find such a suitor and Manoharan introduces him to Mattupetti Machan (Mukesh) a notorious coolie in the local market. Kannappan (Baiju) is the rival faction leader and the two often lock horns over unloading work.Actors

Udayananu Tharam is the story of Udayabhanu (Mohanlal), a worshipper of films and an immensely talented assistant film director, who yearns to write and direct his own movie at a time when the industry is filled with dubious filmmakers. Rajappan Thengummoodu (Sreenivasan) is a rather crooked friend of Udayabhanu and an aspiring and failed actor. As Udayabhanu finally prepares to shoot his first movie based on his own script, he discovers to his horror that Rajappan has stolen his manuscript, and shooting is underway with Rajappan playing the lead, which eventually propels him to stardom. Parthasarathy (Jayaram, popularly called Parthan, lives in Krishnapuram village. Parthan is constantly clashing with his uncle Falgunan Thampy (Jagathy Sreekumar), who is the Panchayath President.
