Motor Sundaram Pillai is a 1966 Indian Tamil drama film, directed by Balu and produced by S. S. Vasan under the banner of Gemini Studios. The film features Sivaji Ganesan playing the title role with an ensemble cast of Ravichandran, Sivakumar, Nagesh, Kanchana, Sowcar Janaki and Jayalalithaa in supporting roles. The story is based on Liam O'Brien's play The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker which itself was inspired by a real life incident.

Synopsis

Sundaram Pillai (Sivaji Ganesan), a self made industrialist who has a motor company of his own. He is portrayed to have established a good name for himself and looks the typical classic upper-class gentleman. He has a huge family of roughly eight children ; three of them are grownups while the others are kids in primary classes. While Kanchana is the eldest daughter married to Siva Kumar, Jayalalitha and Sailasri are the two other grownup unmarried daughters. Jayalalitha is in love with Ravichandran , the son of a college principal and Saialsri falls in love with the brother of a friend.

Sivaji Ganesan earns a living driving a truck. He is a rash driver and more than usually also driving while drunk. One night he stops at a prostitute's, spends the night with her, and gets up late the next morning. Poornima Jayaram, a widow living in Ooty leads a peaceful life with her two sons. Jaishankar, a tourist who visits the place gets tempted and rapes her. In the act, Pornima dies leaving her two sons who witness the murder. The eldest son (Bhanu Chander) is raised by his maternal uncle while the younger brother (Thiagarajan) joins a blind music teacher as he has great interest in music. Years later he becomes a great singer. Meanwhile, his brother is trained effectively by his uncle learning martial arts with the intention of avenging the death of his mother as he very well remembers the culprit's face. With a turn of events leading to both sons joining together and take revenge for their mother's death forms the rest of the story.

Rajalingam (alias Raju) (Sivaji Ganesan) is the son of a wealthy Madurai-based industrialist, Sankaralingam (S. V. Ramadoss). Living with Raju is his driver and friend, Sundaram (Major Sundarrajan). While vacationing in his family estate at Kodaikanal with Sundaram and his family doctor, Gopal (S. A. Asokan), Raju meets Parvathi (Vanisri) and falls in love with her.
