Nudo di donna (internationally released as Portrait of a Woman, Nude and Portrait of a Nude Woman) is a 1981 Italian mystery - comedy film. It is the third and final film directed by Nino Manfredi. The original director, Alberto Lattuada, was replaced after the first few weeks of shooting, due to disputes with Manfredi, who also played the lead.
Synopsis
Sandro (Nino Manfredi) et Laura (Eleonora Giorgi) sont mariés depuis 16 ans. Laura a hérité d'une librairie d'ouvrages anciens et d'art dans Venise. Leur couple est en crise et ils sont souvent au bord de la rupture. En pleine biennale de Venise, Sandro quitte le domicile conjugal. Il est recueilli par Zanetto (Georges Wilson), un marginal homosexuel autour duquel s'agglutinent artistes et marginaux. Dans le grenier, il découvre une photo très grand format d'une femme couchée, nue, de dos, qu'il trouve ressemblante à Laura. Voulant en avoir le cœur net, il revient chez lui en pleine nuit, découvre sa femme qui dort nue dans le lit et reste dubitatif. Il se met ensuite à enquêter sur cette fameuse photo, une quête qui lui fera parcourir tout Venise.Actors

While in Florence on business, Roman landscape architect Giulio Marengo meets an alluring college student, Francesca, and spends the night with her. A woman spy and some male agents working for the Germans during World War I land at night near the British naval base at Scapa Flow, from a U-boat. The British, led by Col. Foreman, ambush the landing party, capturing two of the men, but the woman gets away. Foreman fakes the execution of one of the spies, thus tricking the second one, Meyer, into becoming a double agent in the hopes of using him to capture his woman accomplice, whom Meyer identifies under the codename Fraulein Doktor. Fraulein Doktor is portrayed as a brilliant spy who stole a formula for a nerve gas which the Germans used to great effect against the Allies on the battlefield.

Born into a wealthy family of French vintners, Max (Michel Piccoli) is a loner who devoted himself entirely to his obsession: the arrest of criminals. A former judge he is a police inspector and he sees a new band of burglars escape. This failure is still fresh in his mind when he meets Abel who has become a scrap thief and plunders construction sites with a small band of hoodlums around Nanterre. Max plans to encourage them to commit something big and catch them on the spot. Posing as a client, he meets Lily (Romy Schneider), a young German-born prostitute who is the companion of Abel. He pretends to be the director of a small bank branch which receives significant amounts of money at regular intervals. He ensures the support of his police commissioner. Max fails however to reveal his role as instigator. Gradually, some feeling arises between Max and Lily. But Max keeps a reserved attitude and merely influences the scrap through her. Finally, guessing the band ready for action, he communicates an ideal date to commit robbery. On the scheduled day, the police await them and they are arrested. Later in the police station, Rosinsky (the top cop in the bank's district) reveals to Max that he wants all collaborators brought to justice, including Lily. Distraught, Max tries to save her and ends up threatening Rosinsky. In an argument, Max pulls out his gun and kills him.

A qualified surgeon is urgently called by a party in a small and inadequate private hospital to operate a man in critical condition because of a suicide attempt. This is the protagonist of the film, Benedict Parisi, whose first name seems prophetic of his story. In the waiting room is the companion Joan Micheli, pregnant with him, which—Benedict being alone in the world—gives consent to the risky operation.
