Synopsis
En juillet 1944, le nord de l'Italie est occupé par les Allemands. Un aviateur américain dont l'avion a été abattu est caché à Florence par la jolie et fantasque Rita, avec l'aide d'un inventeur distrait, Fineschi, dont elle est amoureuse. À eux trois, ils vont traverser la Toscane, déguisés en officiers allemands, poursuivis par le capitaine Vogel, en réalité mélomane et pacifiste, et ils finiront tous par rejoindre les lignes américaines. Vingt ans plus tard, ils ont fait fortune grâce à l'invention de Fineschi, qui a épousé Rita.Actors

After the Second World War, Antonio returns to Rome from his place of combat in Russia. He has a strong desire to riabbracciarsi with his wife. Professor Serafino Benvenuti is a master of classical music who has the passion of the orchestra director. However, the young audience of the 60 does not appreciate classical composers like Mozart or Beethoven, and so Serafino is likely to have compromised his image as a director. Dans un petit village, entre Rome et Naples, les Alliés sont sur le point de faire leur entrée triomphale. Malgré tout, il semble que les Alliés soient encore bien loin et Crippa, le représentant du Fascio, envoie en avant le fils de Cappellaro (qui est dans la vraie vie le fils de l'acteur français) et fait savoir qu'il a convoqué une bande de chemises noires pour rétablir l'ordre. Cappellaro fait en sorte que son fils reste dans le village en le cachant dans la cave, mais pendant la nuit Crippa est assassiné.
