Sansar (English: World) is an Indian Bollywood domestic drama film directed by T. Rama Rao and starring Anupam Kher, Rekha and Raj Babbar in the lead roles. The other cast members included Aruna Irani, Archana Joglekar, Shekhar Suman, Priyanka, Chandrashekhar, Shafi Inamdar, Ajinkya Deo, Dinesh Hingoo and Seema Deo. The film was a remake of Tamil film Samsaram Adhu Minsaram.

Synopsis

The film is based on the turmoils of the family of a post master. The film presents the rift between the family due to clash of egos among the children and their parents.

The story revolves around Dharamraj "Dada" Thakur (Anil Kapoor). Since the death of his father Ghajraj Thakur(Rajinikanth), Dada Thakur has been the head of the village. His family consists of his wife Lakshmi (Rekha) and two younger brothers, Arjun and Nakul. Dada Thakur and Lakshmi are virtually like parents to Arjun and Nakul. Dada Thakur is highly respected in society and his word is considered law. Arjun gets married to a city girl, Meena (Raveena Tandon). Retired and widowed judge Umakant Verma (Ashok Kumar) lives a wealthy lifestyle with his only son, Dr. Shashikant (Jeetendra). Gauri (Rekha), the daughter of Umakant's childhood friend, Narayan Singh (A.K. Hangal), is the lead servant in the house, but she has never been treated as a servant but rather as a family member. When Umakant makes his last will and testament, he wants Shashikant to marry Gauri. And indeed, after Umakant's death, Shashikant and Gauri get married. Soon Gauri gives birth to a boy, Ravikant (Sachin), and a few months later gets pregnant again. However, before she gives birth, she finds out that Shashikant has been seeing his former girlfriend Krishna (Asha Sachdev), not understanding that he is treating her sick daughter. One night, Krishna calls the house seeking Sashikant's help for her daughter. Gauri, who receives the call and suspects an affair, refuses to relay the message to Sashikant. Consequently, Krishna's daughter dies. An intense rift happens between Gauri and Shashikant, and Gauri leaves the house. Angry about how Gauri was responsible for Krishna's daughter's death, he does not let her take their son with her. Ravikant is brought up by his father, while Gauri gives birth to another son, Umakant (Arun Govil), and does her best to bring him up. The story follows the separate individual lives of Shashikant and Gauri and their two children.

Malati (Rati Agnihotri), a young girl from a middle-class family meets Suresh Ray (Mithun Chakraborty), who is the son of a well-known lawyer Dayashankar Ray (Danny Denzongpa). After dating each other for some time, she finds that she is pregnant. When Suresh refuses to marry Malati, and she decides against aborting the baby, her parents throw her out and disown her. Left alone, she decides to take Suresh to court. She is supported in this fight by Shakuntala (Rekha), a lawyer who works for woman's rights, who also has an illegitimate daughter from Dayashankar Ray. The case gets much publicity and public support, and the judge rules in Malati's favor. At this point however, Malati refuses to marry Suresh and decides to raise the child on her own. In the meantime, Shakuntala dies of a heart attack, and Malati promises her to take care of her daughter, and carry on Shakuntala's work.

Kumar (Dharmendra) is interested in boxing but her mother Janki (Nirupa Roy) doesn't like him to be a boxer. He falls in love with his neighbour, Mala (Reena Roy) detective by profession. They were soon to marry. The story moves forward by Mala finding out that G.D. (Amrish Puri) who runs a gym where he trains boxers and only wants his trainee to win boxing championship, he does lots of illegal activities and tries to find out proof against him so that he can be jailed. The story takes turn when Janki gets a call from menal hospital that Ganga has completely recovered and can be discharged from the hospital. She shares her agony with her husband and tells him that it would be impossible to give back her son to his biological mother Ganga. Overhearing this conversation, Kumar is shattered. But when Ganga meets his son for the first time, she doesn't reveal him truth herself realising that Janki is heart patient and would die without Kumar and soon moves to Haridwar. Kumar goes to Haridwar to find her and brings her back and give her a house to stay. He doesn't reveal Janki about their association. Soon he comes to know that his biological father, Ajay (Dara Singh) was a boxing champion and was killed by G.D. Kumar decides to take revenge by winning boxing championship against those killers and he finally succeeds. But, seeing murder of her husband murderers, Ganga again loses her mental balance and dies on the spot. Kumar comes back home and break the news in front his parents that Ganga is dead but still doesn't confess that he knows the truth. The story ends with family remembering Ganga.
