Simple Kapadia (15 August 1958 – 10 November 2009) was a Bollywood actress and costume designer.
Simple Kapadia began her career when she was 18 years old. She made her acting debut in 1977 in the film
Anurodh, paired opposite her then real-life brother-in-law, actor Rajesh Khanna. In that movie, she played the role of Sumitha Mathur. Her career as an actress spanned for almost 10 years. She starred in Shaaka in 1981 opposite Jeetendra. Her role in Lootmaar received all the plaudits from critics as well as theatregoers.
She then distinguished herself with secondary roles in movies such as Jeevan Dhara, Hum Rahe Na Hum and Dulha Bikta Hai in which she performed a memorable qawali dance. In 1985, she starred in alternate cinema movie Rehguzar opposite Shekhar Suman. This poetic movie confirmed her qualities as an actress. Despite several offers and after more than 20 movies, she decided to end her acting career in 1987 after performing in an item song for the movie Parakh. She decided to become a costume designer. She very quickly excelled in that role and in her clientele, famous names such as Tabu, Amrita Singh, Sridevi and Priyanka Chopra could be found.
In 1994, she won a National Award for her costume design in Rudaali. Later, she distinguished herself in movies such as Rok Sako To Rok Lo and Shaheed which made her one of the most sought designers of Bollywood.
Her elder sister is actress Dimple Kapadia. She was the aunt of Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna.

A small town, aspiring, lyricist Shekhar (played by Shekhar Suman) comes to the dream city called Bombay (now Mumbai) to make it big. He stays in the city on rent in a house, which is owned by a person (played by Bharat Bhushan) from his town. The daughter of his landlord, Simple (played by Simple Kapadia) falls in love with him and he reciprocates the feelings too. Meanwhile he meets the secretary (played by Jyoti Sarup) of a famous lyricist in the business. Naseeb, a story of destiny and fate, begins with a lottery ticket. A drunk who cannot pay his tab trades: so he decides to sell his ticket to the waiter, Namdev (Pran), instead. Namdev purchases this ticket with his three friends Damu (Amjad Khan), Raghu (Kader Khan) and Jaggi (Jagdish Raj). Using a system of drawing out the highest card to decide who keeps the ticket, Jaggi wins, and the ticket stays with him. When the ticket turns out to be a winner, Damu and Raghu turn on the other two, murdering Jaggi and framing Namdev. Namdev goes on the run but Raghu and Damu intervene and throw him over a bridge into a river and Namdev is presumed dead.

Wealthy industrialist, Nanda, is enraged when he finds out that his eldest son, Ramesh, has fallen in love with a poor woman, Seema, and wants to marry her. He asks his son that if he marries her, he will exclude him from his will. In answer to that, Ramesh marries Seema and leaves the Nanda household. When Nanda's younger son, Ravi, returns home he is told that his brother is away on business. Ravi does find out that Ramesh had been asked to leave by their father. He manages to convince his dad to change his mind about Ramesh, and sets off to find Ramesh. He finds out that Ramesh and Seema are no longer alive, but Seema had given birth to a son, and left him in the care of her sister, Kanchan. Ravi meets Kanchan, and both fall in love with each other. When Kanchan finds out that Ravi is Nanda's son, she is angry, and refuses to have to do anything with Ravi, as she is sure that she too will be rejected by Nanda, when he finds out that she is poor, and related to Seema. What Ravi and Kanchan don't know that Nanda has an ulterior motive, as he wants to adopt Ramesh's son - by hook or by crook.

Indian Air Force pilot Bhagat lives with his wife, Raksha and a young son. While going to the bank one day, the family find that the bank is being held up. The bank-robbers panic at the arrival of the police, and fire randomly killing Raksha instantly. Bhagat witnesses this horrific spectacle and is unable to do anything to save his wife. The robbers were masked, but one of them had a tear in his shoe and another was wearing a locket, very similar to the worn by his wife. Bhagat's inquiries take him to the northernmost hilly regions of India, where he must confront the past, as well as seek out the elusive killers and bring them to justice, not knowing that in so doing he will be endangering the life of his son.

Best friends and musicologists Pratap (Dev Anand) and Kashinath (Girish Karnad) make a bet that Pratap can transform any unpolished girl into a graceful and talented singer in only six months' time. Kashinath agrees that he will marry the girl if Pratap is successful. One night they accidentally take the wrong train after a party. They encounter Kamli (Tina Munim), a loud-mouthed vendor of neem branches on the train and Pratap tells her that she could become a skilled singer. At first Kamli laughs at him, but changes her mind and comes to see him the next day, saying she will pay him for music lessons. Kamli moves in with the acerbic and bossy Pratap to become his full-time pupil. With the help of his invention the scalograph, Pratap teaches Kamli to sing classical music and play the tambura. Meanwhile, soft-spoken and gentlemanly Kashinath teaches her the culture of music, proper etiquette and how to talk correctly. Kamli's shiftless father Popatlal (Mehmood) shows up to complain about the unorthodox living arrangement, but the two men pay him off and send him away. They decide to test their protege and take Kamli to a party where they pass her off as part of a royal family. Unfortunately, she drinks too much and gives the game away. After the party, Kamli gives Pratap's secretary a month off and takes over his duties, becoming indispensable to her teacher. Finally, the big day arrives and Kamli performs in front of a large audience where she is a great success. Afterwards, Pratap and Kashinath congratulate themselves on their great success, forgetting Kamli's hard work. In despair about her uncertain future and filled with sadness that Pratap does not care for her, she fights with him and leaves. Pratap pretends to be indifferent. Kashinath, knowing his friend well, points out that he has obviously fallen in love with her and releases him from the bet. Pratap is miserable without Kamli, but he is too proud to ask her back. Just when he thinks she is gone forever, she returns to him.

Sandhya (Dimple Kapadia) and Nikhil (Shekhar Kapur) are a happily married, urban, professional couple. Coming from middle-class families, both of them have risen in their professional life by virtue of merit and hard work. On their eighth wedding anniversary one of their friends brings along his nephew Rahul (Irrfan Khan) who is a classical singer. Sandhya develops an attraction and has an affair with him. She confides in her friend Prabha, but does not tell Nikhil about it. After a couple of months, the affair ends. After about a year, Nikhil falls in love with Vrinda, his assistant in the lab.
