Le pays fictif de Luxusbuerg se prépare au couronnement du jeune duc après la mort de son père dans un accident de ski. Cependant, une organisation terroriste cherche à créer un trou noir qui détruirait tout le pays. On appelle alors à l'aide Superjhemp, porté disparu depuis des années. Doc Savage (Ron Ely) returns to New York City following a visit to his Arctic hideaway, the Fortess of Solitude. He learns that his father has died under mysterious circumstances while exploring the remote interior of the Central American Republic of Hidalgo. While examining his father's personal papers, Doc finds himself the target of an assassination attempt. Doc Savage chases and corners the sniper on the nearby Eastern Cranmoor Building, but the would-be assassin loses his footing and falls to his death. Examining the body, Doc discovers that his assailant is a Native American with peculiar markings; his fingertips are red, as if dipped in blood, while his chest bears an elaborate tattoo of the ancient Mayan god Kukulcan. Returning to his penthouse headquarters, Doc finds that intruders have destroyed his father's personal papers. Vowing to solve his father's murder, Doc Savage flies to Hidalgo with "The Fabulous Five", his brain trust, at his side.

Under the command of Dr. Freedom, the crass superhero Mr. Freedom (John Abbey) goes to France to stave off the advances of the mysterious French Anti-Freedom (FAF) organization. He joins forces with the femme fatale Marie-Madeleine to lead his own anti-communist Freedom organization. The Freedom mission is complicated by the machinations of communist foes — the Stalinist Moujik Man and the ferocious Maoist Red China Man (portrayed as a giant inflatable dragon). France, refusing to see the FAF as a threat, rebuffs Freedom, leading to an escalation of Cold War tactics. Le chanteur Goopy et le percussionniste Bagha, tous deux chassés de leurs villages respectifs à cause de leurs horribles prestations, font connaissance dans la forêt. Là, ils rencontrent le roi des fantômes, qui content d'eux leur accorde trois vœux. Pour les rendre effectifs, ils doivent en même temps prononcer leur souhait et se frapper la main mutuellement. Munis du pouvoir d'obtenir de la nourriture par magie, de chaussures qui les emmènent instantanément là où ils veulent et surtout d'une merveilleuse habileté au chant et aux percussions, nos deux héros entament un périple fantastique qui les mène à la Cour d'un roi dont ils gagnent les faveurs en remportant un tournoi musical. Ils parviendront à empêcher le déclenchement d'une guerre imminente entre les États voisins de Shundi et Halla, pourtant dirigés par deux frères, mais dont l'un est sous l'influence néfaste d'un magicien qui a du reste également ensorcelé toute la population en la rendant muette. De fil en aiguille, grâce à leur habileté, les deux héros vont combattre les forces du mal et rétablir l'harmonie entre les frères et les royaumes, obtenant même de chacun la main d'une princesse.
