Synopsis
Pavithran (Jayasurya) is a story writer for the stage plays of Jayabharathy Theaters. Pavithran is also known as 'Shakespeare' because he of his writing abilities. Kottayam Gopalan (Kalabhavan Mani), who runs Jayabharathy Theaters, likes him because all his scripts are super hit and always earn him awards.Actors

Parthasarathy (Jayaram, popularly called Parthan, lives in Krishnapuram village. Parthan is constantly clashing with his uncle Falgunan Thampy (Jagathy Sreekumar), who is the Panchayath President. Falgunan is least bothered about the welfare of the people; rather, he is more keen in grabbing the assets of the village temple, which has been locked for many years by the court over a dispute of ownership. Mohanlal plays the double role of 75-year-old Suranadu Kunju and his son Papoyi. Kunju thinks that the heartbeat of earth is in soil and not in maths. Telugu actress Laya is the heroine in this film. His beliefs on the land and agrarianism is good but his value system that farmers and farming is more important and better is not. He does not let his sons pursue there interest and wants them to do farming also. Which leads in they becoming negative towards father. Also when he tries to marry off his daughter to an ugly but farming loving another narrow minded character instead of an educated handsome doctor makes them feel that the father is destroying and spoiling their lives with his stubbornness and high handedness.

The film narrates the story of "Cuba" Mukundan (Sreenivasan) . He is a staunch leftist who lives for the movement. Machinations of a corrupt politician Karunan (Guruvayoor Sivaji) who perceives Mukundan as a threat to his political career force Mukundan to take up a job in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Even in Dubai, he finds that Kunjunny Muthalaly (Jagathy Sreekumar) who was in league with Karunan is in Dubai, exploiting the helpless labourers who migrate to the Gulf performing menial jobs and physical labor in order to support their families back home. He has always had a soft corner for People's Republic of China as a result of his leftist leanings and when he meets Zhang Chu Min (Zhang Chu Min), a Chinese girl, she quickly finds a special place in his heart as she symbolizes China to him. Later even after realising that she is an anti communist and is there to make money for the treatment of her boyfriend who fought against the Chinese Government, he gives her his earnings saying a communist never keeps money more than his requirements. Mukundan, with the help of his friends Anwar, Maya, and Karim, exposes the machinations of Karunan and Kunjunny Muthalaly. Finally Mukundan returns home to work for the political cause which has been his life and love.

Swapna Sanchari revolves around the gulf-returned Ajaychandran Nair (Jayaram). He has a lovely wife (Samvrutha Sunil) and a 9th standard daughter ( Anu Emmanuel) who does not speak more. He dreams of earning a big name in the society, thus buys a Mercedes-Benz, an old theatre, land in front of panchayat hall, promised hefty contributions for community hall and several other charitable organizations where he can put his name in front. He undertakes running the village festival completely by himself to earn a big name. Thus he dreams big but falls short in no time after his business in Dubai falls down. In no time Ajaychandran reduces nothing to big zero. The movie sketches the plot of those who falls into debt due to show-off.
