Sindoor is a 1987 Indian Bollywood film directed by K. Ravi Shankar and produced by A. Krishnamurthy. It stars Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Govinda, Jaya Prada and Neelam Kothari in pivotal roles.

Synopsis

The film opens with widowed Laxmi (Jaya Prada), a loving and caring mother to Lalita (Neelam Kothari), a young college going devoted daughter. Ravi (Govinda) is a fellow collegian and a brilliant student. Gulshan Grover also is a student of same college. Vijay Choudhury(Shashi Kapoor) joins the college as English Professor. He shares good raport with the students. After a few misunderstanding Lalita and Ravi fall in love. In a college function Lalita sings the song "Patjhad Saawan Basant Bahaar" where she forgets the lyrics and the song is completed by Professor Vijay Choudhury. Upon asking how he knew the song he replies that this was a very famous song and his wife's favourite. Lalita tells him she learnt the song from her mother.

It was a box-office Hit.

Govinda stars as Sagar, a wealthy but idle young man. Following a night of consuming much alcohol he finds a homeless and parentless young boy. He takes the boy home and learns that he is deaf and attempts to nurture him and names him Raja. He tries to get information out of him but does not understand anything. Raja's mother has been brutally murdered (by Anupam Kher and his henchman Ranjit) as she witnesses a murder committed by this pair. Sagar takes Raja out to fairs and adventures and Raja sees Ranjit and tries to tell Sagar that he is the one who murdered his mother. Slowly Sagar understands the tale of the story. He meets a girl Neelam and becomes friends. She takes them to her house. Raja sees a picture of Neelam her father and shockingly his mother. Sagar wants to unfold the mystery of Raja's incident. He finds out that Raja's mother has been murdered. As he is looking for clues, he gets arrested. To prove his innocence the boy takes them to his house where there was a happy family. They take a sniffer dog to find out clues. The dog sniffs the floor outside the house. the men dug it and found a piece of cloth which his mother was wrapped in and buried there.

Officer Kapil Khanna was a strict enforcer of the law. In order to gain evidence against the local mafia Don D'Costa he seek a favour from his underworld friend Aazam Khan a man with a golden heart. Aazam Khan was successful in securing evidence against D'Costa but the mafia got wise to it and before Aazam Khan could reach the law, D'Costa with the help of his friend Dalpat Dalal liquidated him. The blame of Aazam Khan's death was owned by a petty driver Nathulal for a price paid by Dalpat Dala. Aazam Khan's little son Akbar swore vengeance against Police Officer Kapil Khanna as he felt him responsible. Kapil Khanna's wife delivered a baby boy in the hospital of D'Costa, so did Dalpat Dalal's wife to a baby girl. D'Costa returned Dalpat's favour by interchanging the two on Dalpat's insistence. Kapil Khanna was enraged at this and he took to a legal battle against the hospital authorities.
