Synopsis
Dans les années 1870 à New York, l'entrepreneur américain Phineas Taylor Barnum (Hugh Jackman) cherche à développer une activité de divertissement pour améliorer les conditions de vie de sa famille. C'est dans ce contexte qu'il crée le freak show, un spectacle composé de comédiens aux caractéristiques et capacités uniques (femme à barbe, nain, trapézistes, …), et invente le premier "cirque", le cirque Barnum. Ces spectacles sont globalement appréciés, mais également très critiqués par la presse de la haute société américaine. Pour améliorer son image, M. Barnum s'associe avec Philip Carlyle (Zac Efron), un jeune dramaturge populaire et influent qui va lui permettre de se faire connaître au-delà même des frontières américaines. Lors d'une visite au palais royal d'Angleterre, M. Barnum fait la connaissance de Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson), une chanteuse à succès sur le continent européen, qu'il convainc de venir chanter aux États-Unis sous son aile. Grâce au talent de Miss Lind, ce nouveau spectacle est un succès et M. Barnum est encensé par les critiques, au point qu'il décide de risquer la vie de son cirque pour financer une tournée dans tout le pays avec sa nouvelle chanteuse.Actors

The movie begins with the Wildcats trailing the West High Knights, with the Wildcats entering the locker room for the final quarter feeling bitter. Team captain Troy rallies the team's spirit ("Now or Never") and, thanks to new transfer Jimmie "The Rocket" Zara, the Wildcats win the championship game which is the last one for the seniors on the squad at East High. Later, at Troy's after-match party at his house, Troy and Gabriella are seen thinking about their future and wishing that their last few months at East High would not end ("Right Here, Right Now").

In 1815, convict Jean Valjean is released on parole by prison guard Javert after serving a nineteen-year sentence for stealing a loaf of bread and numerous escape attempts. Valjean is refused employment due to his paroled status. He is offered food and shelter by the Bishop of Digne, but Valjean steals his silver during the night. When he is captured by the constables, the Bishop tells them that the silver was given as a gift, securing Valjean's release. The Bishop urges Valjean to do something worthwhile with his life. Every emperor penguin sings a unique song called a "heartsong" to attract a mate. If the male penguin's heartsong matches the female's song, the two penguins mate. Norma Jean, a female penguin, falls for Memphis, a male penguin and they become mates. They lay an egg, which is left in Memphis' care, while Norma Jean leaves with the other females to fish. While the males struggle through the harsh winter, Memphis briefly drops the egg. The resulting chick, Mumble, is unable to sing but can tap dance. Nevertheless, he is enamored with Gloria, a female penguin who is regarded as the most talented of her age. One day, Mumble encounters a group of hostile skua, with a leader who is tagged with a yellow band, which he says is from an alien abduction. Mumble narrowly escapes the hungry birds by falling into a crevice.

On the opening night of Princess Ida at the Savoy Theatre in January 1884, composer Sir Arthur Sullivan (Allan Corduner), who is ill from kidney disease, is barely able to make it to the theatre to conduct. He goes on a holiday to Continental Europe hoping that the rest will improve his health. While he is away, ticket sales and audiences at the Savoy Theatre wilt in the hot summer weather. Producer Richard D'Oyly Carte (Ron Cook) has called on Sullivan and the playwright W. S. Gilbert (Jim Broadbent) to create a new piece for the Savoy, but it is not ready when Ida closes. Until a new piece can be prepared, Carte revives an earlier Gilbert and Sullivan work, The Sorcerer.
